I've never EVER had anything like that from snus either.

It could be an allergic reaction or something. It looks to me like a partially healed split lip.

The bottom line is you can put a label of whatever you want under any picture. For all anyone knows this guy might have fallen down while he had the straw from his Big Gulp in his mouth. Some anti-tobacco nazi found a convenient visual aide to coincide with their rhetoric.

If it was from snus then this guy is epically dense. He had to have been putting snus in the same spot long after it got inflamed and done some major chain snusing to get it that bad.

I don't usually look at my lip, but I made a special exception for you ;^)

Mine looks a little salt wrinkled on my gums, but that's it. I've virtually chainsnused for the last 2 years, including sleeping on occasion. That picture doesn't look anything like my mouth.

The worst I've gotten was a small white cankersore type bump on my left gum. This happened when I first started snusing and had to keep it on the left side only due to a cold sore on the right of my upper lip. It was also while chain snusing US Camel.

I've never had sores, but I do have some gum recession, mainly on the bottom teeth. And sometimes I have some slight gum pain. But these issues I had from before snus. I hope the snus doesn't make it worse. It's always something.

Whatever the case, that dude's mouth is hurtin! If yours ever starts to look a fraction of that nasty, its time to put the can down! I can only imagine that if that's truly from snus, dude ignored a whole lot of signs that he should be cutting back or finding alternatives. If my mouth started looking all broke like that, I would quit way before it got to that point! If snus could really do that to the average person, we would not have people like blogtode saying what he said. We would know by now. Snuson.

I did get a couple small lesions and lots of burning. I narrowed it down to Goteburg's Rape, stopped using it, and never a problem again. Allergic reaction.

I can say that the sores I had were probably directly related to the amount of salt in the snus! After I got used to it I never had sores again! Cheers!

If you get sores, pain, allergic reaction or whatever...you must be careful, take a break, test other snus or quit....but i agree with tom502, i´m also very suspicious when these pictures shows up every now and then. However, no one can know his body as well as himself...
I havn´t noticed any side effects of snus on me, but thats me

That would be the "string" (dont know what it's called) that's gone from insane amounts of chain snusing for several years, i guess.

had to go look in the mirror...all good. I've been chain snusing for bout 5 months and fwiw I never dipped...so my lips was virgin and tender.

not even the slightest mark. I've used mostly portions with 2 to 3 los's per day.

I think I've done more damage with an afternoon of sunflower seed then with months of snus.

I could have lived forever without seeing that picture.

On the plus side he does look like he has very clean teeth.

There is a 'Post your ugly mug' thread. Maybe we could start "Post your gum' thread.

"Snus-induced lesions (SILs) are mucosal changes that are regularly seen in users of moist snuff (snus). Their role in oral carcinogenesis remains undefined. Our aim was to assess the natural course of SILs over several decades. A cohort of 1,115 individuals with SILs, confirmed in 1973-1974 during a population-based survey was followed for 27-29 years through multiple record linkages with virtually complete population- and health registers. A sample (n = 267) of the cohort members were invited for reexamination after 19-22 years. Register-based follow-up through January 2002 revealed a total of 3 incident cases of oral cancer (standardized incidence ratio of 2.3, 95% CI 0.5-6.7), none of which occurred at the site of the original SIL. There was a strong association noted between the degree of SIL and current snus consumption. The SILs had disappeared in all 62 individuals who had permanently quitted using snus. In no case did we observe an important clinical change for the worse among individuals who had decreased their use or continued unabatedly. While the incidence of oral cancer in this cohort of individuals with SILs tended to be higher than expected, we conclude that cancers rarely occur at the site of lesions observed in the distant past.

Even if you develop a "snus lesion", it doesn't mean you will get cancer. In this study, it showed that snus lesions had no effect on the chance of getting oral cancer. Among the subjects that developed oral cancer, the cancerous cells weren't near the area of the "snus lesion".
