I don't ever have problems in the gum area at all. My tongue gets the punishment every 7 months and its random Ill wake up one day and I will feel like I have burnt it really bad then about 1 week later it goes away. Anyone else had that happen to them I know I can't be the only one at least I hope not lol.
Used to have this problem back in the day when I ate at the Y
So far so good here. I use mostly loose and have snus in all the time (including sleeping). The only time I don't have snus in is when I'm brushing and flossing (that's when I use nasal snuff) and while I eat (I eat really fast). I use a mix of regular, stark, and extra stark. I also smoke a pipe 1-3 times a day or a cigar. I do switch up the sides for snus but just left or right upper (two pockets only). All clear so far.
You just might be worse than the dude on the 60-Minutes video!
Okay so unfortunately there are no Swedish dentists in Hong Kong and the current dentist I go to is American and probably has no idea what snus is. Which means if I get a snus lesion he will probably say its pre-cancerous right? I have seen other threads on this where people's who have dentists that don't know how harmless snus is that have diagnosed a snus lesion as pre-cancerous. My oral health is perfect at the moment and I am a relatively new snus user and I switch sides each time I use a portion/pris. I hear getting a snus lesion is common and I know that they are harmless lesions caused by the salt in the snus but I have a feeling if I get one my dentist will start winging. What should I tell the dentist and my parents (they go to the dentist with me usually) if I get a snus lesion a few years down the road?
Tell them exactly what it is: a lesion caused by salt being in that area for prolonged periods of time, and that it's nothing to worry about.
To be honest though, I don't think I have ever got one. They're pretty rare in my experience. Usually the skin under your lip and on your gum will pickle (kinda feel shriveled) from the salt, but that goes away after using snus for a while.
Seriously though, it pretty much comes down to that. I had a little go around with my dentist on the last trip, but what he thinks doesn't matter. He's being paid to do a job, and he does it. If you hear some nonsense, you can engage, or not; it doesn't really matter in the end. People have closed minds, even "professionals", and professionals aren't any smarter than you are, they just went to school. Think about it. They're the same people that would be land whales drifting through Walmart if not for a twist of fate :^)

Yes! I could say that or "Let's make a bet, $1000 HKD says it won't be cancer"
Also if I ever become a doctor I will be the Snus ambassador to the medical world!
So I've been doing snus off and on for around 7-8 months now, and now I have a little concern. I've read the forums and have heard about snus caused lesions, and am not sure what they look like. On the inside of my cheek I have a large-ish red spot around an inch in or so and feels very smooth, this also occurred about a month ago also. After it happened the first time, I stopped using snus and it went away, but almost immediately after I started again, it came back. I've made it a point to not use on that side of my mouth, and yet it still comes back. Does anyone have any idea on what might be happening?
I believe that's a kind of ulceration(temporary) when tobacco/lime content is high.
I think Snuserado is spot on with his post. Good call mate!
What you are describing seems to be an irritation/reaction to the Ph in snus changing the Ph of the mouth (especially if you are using extra starks- which will have higher Ph). Kind of like when you were a kid and ate too much candy and got an ulcer on your tongue or gum. If this were a lesion.......it would be rough, leathery feeling, and in time white. It would also be where you placed the snus.
In most cases with snus a lesion is due to abrasion and nicotine irritating an area of the gum and thus is different than what you find with dip (which in my experience is more of a chemical burn and thus of far more concern).
I would just keep an eye on it. Our bodies are all different and respond differently to different things (some get kidney stones from tea....others drink gallons a day and never have a problem).
If you are using starks, you might want to work in some regular strength and see if reducing the Ph this way helps.
My guess is that it is no big deal and your body will adjust.........but in the end that is something that you will have to determine.
One more thought…..this might be an allergic reaction to something in the snus you are using. I know that the rose oil in Skruf has caused a handful of members here some issues. You might try isolating key ingredients and backing off of them (If you are using Skruf and then stop, does this help. If you are using mint and stop, does this help. If you are using bergamot and stop does this help…etc….)
Regardless keep us posted.......your experience will help others who might encounter something similar.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers
Thanks for the quick reply guys, you've really calmed me down here. In reference to what kind I use, I actually haven't strayed away from gas station camel snus, and also ONLY use the winterchill variety (wintergreen). Clint I think that little comment on "tounging" it is probably one of the reasons it is getting so irritated also, it's like I cant resist. Thanks again guys, i'll keep y'all posted.

There is no guarantee that American snus is truly snus. Personally, I will not use it.
Get some Swedish snus and see if it happens....I bet it won't. Jakobsson's wintergreen is great wintergreen flavor and easy on the gums.
