    Unrefridgerated Odens

My local tobacco store started carrying Odens Extreme. The only problem is they don't refrigerate it. When i get home i put it in the fridge. Are there more tsnas because its been sitting on the shelf?

i wouldn't worry so much... just maybe ask how long it has been sitting on the shelf... if more than a month maybe pass on it...

Unrefrigerated is standard for American sellers. Dunno about the TSNAs. Odens uses a hybrid system for processing, where it's kind of a blend of fermentation and pasteurization. I know Swedish Match snus doesn't appreciably gain TSNA count at room temperature, but I don't know about Odens. I'd go with Ansel, and just make sure you buy fresh.

That's what made me wonder because I knew it was fermented. It says on the can for the temperature not to excede 8 degrees celcius, not that that necessarily means anything. It doesn't expire until April 2014 so I guess it's fairly fresh.

The manufacturers (Oden's, Thunder, Offroad, Jakobsson's) have assured us that unrefrigerated snus is fine, as long as it doesn't undergo insane heat swings. Everyone talks about refrigeration, but I ask does General get shipped to the US in refrigerated ship containers, or does it get shipped to the retailer in a refrigerated truck? Every retailer I ask this question to, says..."nope, just a regular truck".

I've never refrigerated my snus, regardless of the brand. Now, I will throw it in the freezer if I'm not going to use it right away.

Also...what's the store? Did they have the acrylic display or corrugated display? What about signage, did they have any? Just wonder if my reps are doing their job and shipping these things to the retailers, lol. Thanks

The store is Broad Street Tobacco in Murfreesboro TN. There is no display or anything but they do advertise in the local newspaper as having the best selection of Swedish snus in middle Tennessee

Also Rick when you say heat swings is it OK to put it in the fridge when at home. Do you mean it heating up or just the temperature changing a lot?

when I say heat swings, I mean serious heat swings. Like from room temp to very high temps. If snus sits outside in the summer for a long time, then I'd be worried, but not at room temps. Glad to see that Broad Street finally picked up snus from us. When you say there's no display, where did they have the Oden's? With the dip, behind the counter?

Yeah behind the counter. They just have a shelf full of snus not very visible. The also recently told me a couple of days ago that they are going to stop carrying Thunder Jacobson and the others except odens because its the only one that sells. I'm going to try to convince them otherwise because I just found out about them and have only bought snus from them once.

I don't even think they're on the store locator, this one seems to have fallen through the cracks, but I plan on fixing that. Thanks for the heads up

Anything unrefrigerated is probably just dripping with TSNA's!
