Guys,

I just ran across this article that provides fairly current (2012) TSNA levels in dip and snus ..........it is short and succinct and thus will provide a good quick reference for those interested.....Also, for the more stout of heart it also provides a link to the medical research paper upon which its findings are based.

Anyway, after Tony Gwynn's death (an American Baseball player whose recent death was attributed to oral cancer resulting from dip)........... I thought this might be a timely article showing how the smokeless tobacco landscape has changed significantly since the 70s and 80s

Good article! My step dad died of lung cancer at the ripe old age of 57!! So glad I found Swedish snus and quit! Anything is better than smoking!!

They mean oral snuff. It used to be popular with rural southern women. I haven't seen any in a long time.

It is dual purpose oral nasal snuff

Mr. Snuff sells a large line of it as primarily nasal snuff

But yes that is what they are referring to

American dry snuff TSNA levels appear to be relatively high but the typical usage level is so much lower in weight than snus and dip that I suspect that actual TSNA consumption levels are comparable. Even if the purported higher levels of dry snuff are taken at face value the figures are still wildly lower than for cigarettes.

Which ones? Ive wanted to try snuff and if i can get a can locally for a few bucks id rather do that then make a large order and gamble on whether or not i like it.

In Foodlion usualy you can find Navy TubeRose Railroad and Peach maybe a few others

Ahh, i usually goto BiLo or Publix, thats why ive never seen it. Any of them good?

Publix does not carry any snuf products but around here Bilo does........Navy and Tube Rose are a good place to start........they are both Sweet snuffs........Plain (or non sweet) are a little harsher.

That said.......if you are trying nasal snuff for the first time (verses just wanting to try an American snuff).....then the Americans may not be the best place to start.......they can be a little hard to handle .........check and see what they have at a local pipe store......those will probably be a better place to start.

Thanks for the link. There's no shortage of tobacco shops around Charleston so I'll see if i can find some Wilsons (from what i gather that seems to be a good starting place, please advise if im wrong) around town.

If not it would not be the first time ive jumped into something at the "advanced" level with no prior experience. [emoji2]

I picked up a tin of Silver Dollar Snuff at a tobacco shop in the Charleston area.......That would be a good place to start (the plain/natural Silver Dollar is outstanding.....I also understand they have a new whiskey flavor which sounds really good)....Also the tobacco shop may also have Poschl brand (Packards, President's , etc) any offering from Poschl is also a good place to start.

Regardless keep us posted on what you find and try
