    GothiaTek and other brands

I was recently researching Lucky Strike and the newly introduced Pall Mall snus brands made by British American Tobacco.

On their site it basically insists that they also satisfy the Gothiatek procedure for safe snus.

But according to Gothiatek only swedish match products do.

Then at the bottom it lists the copyright from 2001-2004.

Is GothiaTeks website behind the times or is BAT misleading their information.

I was only wondering because i am very interested in learning about the companies i buy snus from.

I trust Swedish Match and Gotlands but did not know what to think about BAT.

Just puts me on edge knowing how cig companies will do anything to keep customers with additives and blah blah blah, but i really like Lucky Strike Snus and would imagine Pall Mall will also be good.

Any help would be much appreciated, or just thoughts on this subject.

i really hate just giving my money to Swedish Match because to be honest their products arent all that good IMHO.

Gothiatek doesn't really mean much. It's really just an advertising gimmick. BAT now owns the former F&L snus division, and I don't think F&L made snus until 2004.

I edited out a longish rant about people not taking responsibility for their own actions. Suffice it to say that I don't think cigarette companies add anything to tobacco that shouldn't be there(more or less). Snus is snus. Just buy what you enjoy using. It's all about equal as far as safety goes.

Didn't do any research here so I may be way off..

But isn't Gothiatek owned by Swedish Match? so their regulatory value would be in question at best.

As I understand it, Gothiatek tobacco conforms to Swedish food quality standards. That's something that none of the big U.S. tobacco companies can say... The exception might be PM snus which has voluntarily conformed to Gothiatek standards...

All snus sold in Sweden is regulated as a food item. If a company sells the product in Sweden it has to conform to those standards. Gothiatek is a process that SM developed(and trademarked), for producing snus. I think it's more or less meaningless, and was created so they can have a scientific sounding process(sure sounds impressive, doesn't it?) that validates their production techniques(and naturally invalidates their competitors techniques ;^)...).

Maybe I'll make a stainless steel snus tool with short wings on the side, and a knurled top(the most important part). I'll call it the ColdTool, and the exact specifications will be made under the lxstek® process. Any other maker that doesn't conform to lxstek® will be making an obviously inferior, and possibly dangerous product :^D

Well, I'm not quite as cynical... All reputable companies have standards to which they make their products. It protects them from having variability in the quality of their product. If they choose to advertise that, then I have no problem with it... To me it's similar to a manufacturing company advertising that they conform to ISO 9000 quality standards...
