Study: E-cigarettes Are 95% Safer Than Tobacco

An independent study finds that e-cigarettes are 95 percent safer than tobacco and could be “game-changer” for getting people to quit smoking.
The study, commissioned by Public Health England, says that while e-cigarettes may not be totally safe, they contain almost none of the chemicals in cigarettes associated with serious diseases like lung cancer and emphysema.
The report adds that there is a substantial body of high-quality evidence that e-cigarettes are an effective tool for getting smokers to kick their habit. The devices, which were only invented in 2007, already have 2.6 million adult users in England alone.
Contrary to a study released on Tuesday by the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, the report found no association between e-cigarette use among young people and a rise in teen smoking.
“Fears that e-cigarettes have made smoking seem normal again, or even led to people taking up tobacco smoking, are not so far being realized based on the evidence assessed by this important independent review,” Professor Linda Bauld, Cancer Research UK’s expert in cancer prevention told the BBC.
The report comes hot on the heels of a study from anti-tobacco campaign group Action on Smoking and Health that found no link between the rise in teens using e-cigarettes and young people transferring to regular cigarettes.
As lawmakers and regulators move to restrict vaping in public spaces, Public Health England rebutted claims that e-cigarette vapor poses a risk to bystanders, saying the vapor contains negligible amounts of nicotine. North Dakota, New Jersey and Utah all have restrictions on e-cigarettes. Florence County in Wisconsin has gone so far as to ban vaping in public places.
“If I was running a stop-smoking service, I would encourage people who are interested in trying e-cigarettes to have a go,” said Professor McNeill, one of the study’s authors. “I would also be recommending all the other evidence-based medications that people can use.”
One of the report’s recommendations was to treat e-cigarettes differently from regular cigarettes and not ban them in public spaces. But one of the key challenges the report identifies are widespread misperceptions about the safety of e-cigarettes. Almost half of British people are unaware that e-cigarettes are far less harmful than tobacco products.

Agree. Snus is tried and tested for hundreds of years.

Ecigs have been around for less than a decade. For all we know people could start dropping dead from them before long, and then that would be a overinflated 5%.

It's not terribly long ago that doctors were touting analogue cigarettes as being healthy...

Well e-cigs are certainly difficult to fit into the workplace. I stopped smoking 2 years ago have vaped enjoyably since then. I would vape in my car at work. But this week I started taking the bus so the only place to vape at work is the smoking shelter. Here I am rained on while passively smoking and nowhere to sit down, its awful really.
And by the time I have been to the dining area there is little time left so instead of my usual 18mg/ml I mixed some 36mg/ml which made me feel so ill I wanted to lie down. So a bit of a nightmare.
But with snus I figured I can use it indoors sitting down, not getting rained on and not breathing others smoke.
So I have ordered snus from snusline over a week ago but it hasnt arrived yet. I text my wife every day from work asking if a package from Israel has arrived I am so desperate.
I had placed my order without registering so I cannot track the parcel. So today i registered and placed another order so that I can see whats going on in case customs are delaying it. But hopefully my original order will arrive shortly.
I am really quite excited about starting snus. I am convinced of its effectiveness and safety by the statistics from Sweden, statistics many of us are very familiar with on the vape forums. On the vape forum I belong to Snus is fondly regarded like an older brother and we are angry at how the EU has inhibited its spread and believe it is a scandal and that many lives could have been saved. I wrote to my MEPs when the EU attempted to effectively ban ecigs, mostly the MEPs were sympathetic and managed to avoid a ban but there is strong regulation coming and we will see what happens in 2016.
I have ordered a tin each of
        -Skruf slim xtra strong (18mg/g)
        -Knox origional (8mg/g)
-Thunder gold LE extra strong (16mg)
        -Odens extreme original (22mg)
Many vapers, in fact the majority, use non-tobacco flavours but I have always used only tobacco flavour and dont enjoy the fruit etc. And so I have tried to do the same when I ordered Snus.
I have ordered some strong ones as my concern is that my breaks are only 15 and 30 minutes. Is 15 minutes a satisfying length of time to snus ? As with vaping, I expect to be a bit under-nicotened during the work day and thats ok, I am used to it. I make up for it when I get home!

          Welcome wilkuz......

The nicotine uptake for snus is slower than smoking/vaping.......and different from snus brand to brand and flavor to flavor. You do have some strong ones there.....I was a heavy Marlboro smoker for years, and still can't quite handle the nicotine from snus rated over 15 mg, your results may vary, of course. In your situation I would not tell a soul about snus and see if you can sneek it without detection....... best of luck to you.....

My thanks Burnsey, I will keep it stealthy and go easy at first. That is a very helpful graph, and using it as a guide I would guess 15 minutes will be enough to get my nic up to comfortable levels as I dont need too much at work. I will post here with how it goes :-)

EDIT: 08-23-15 My first tins arrived yesterday and i tried an 8mg portion in and havent vaped since. Love everything about it. I will stop posting about it in this thread as I dont want to hijack it and i should have posted in newbies.
