I've smoked AS cigarettes since 1989 or so. It used to come in ziploc bags, and a empty pouch to put the tobacco in for traveling :^D

AS currently comes with a own branded paper(don't know who really makes it) made from flax. The paper's decent, but way too big. I guess all the noobs were whining about it being hard to roll so they changed papers :^/ They used to come with Rizla Blue's which were my favorite gummed paper. If you're up for a challenge, and you can find them, Club makes an excellent paper that doesn't have gum. It's super light, and doesn't add any flavor to the cigarette. If you get them wet, they don't stick together ;^)

      Nictonic,

Originally you said to get the American Spirit Original Blend. But I take it you like the Organic better for snuff? I haven't ordered yet so am curious.... Can you just put it in a coffee grinder as is and make snuff? I don't need a big hit. I am looking for a milder hit actually. I just dipped a tiny pinch of Longhorn and it was about right. The thing is that it just doesn't pack so well when it is such a small pinch.

I can get Bugler at the stores around here--gas stations etc.. I never looked for American Spirit. Do they sell it everywhere? I wonder if Bugler would work for snuff if it was ground up? If its not dry, then maybe not? Also, what would happen if you did not hydrate the American Spirit and made cigarettes? Would they be harsh and burn too fast?

Yes, I quit cigarettes after smoking them from about age 11 - 22. Now I am 52.

I wonder about American Spirit in a pipe. I don't want to have to deal with rolling. I may not smoke at all, but its certainly tempting. I would do it rarely, so maybe it would be ok. Mostly I just am going to use smokeless.

Shoot, maybe I should just buy a pack of camels and freeze them.

Any of the 4 blends they offer are fine for snuffing, I think the US blend is my favourite for smoking though. AS is very popular - any tobacconist should both the 1.41oz pouches and 5.29oz cans.

If you smoke dry AS tobacco it will taste VERY harsh. If you haven't smoke in many years you will probably throw up from smoking a filterless AS, dry or not. Rolling tobacco burns too quickly for a pipe and could harm the bowl of the pipe: you don't want a cigarette tobacco "ghost" in your pipe.

Any tobacco can be made into snuff, but I don't know about Bugler because its sorta weak and you can tell by the aroma it has tons of additives. It does have a very pleasant smell though, so at least it would be good aroma-wise.

Nicotinic has the right idea on American Spirit and knows the tobacco well. I hadn't tried the homemade snuff yet, but did get the free sample of Toque in and tried the start up method of putting a bit in your nose, not actually snorting it. This was still rough for me, sneezing and couldn't tell any sort of nicotine arrived.

Careful on Bugler - at least my opinion, there are quite some additives in it and AS doesn't have these from what I know. Its much more just straight tobacco.

Otherwise - smoking American Spirit is a bit rough as the tobacco is usually dry and it is strong nicotine wise.

There are other tobaccos to try - D&R Tobacco (www.cigarettetobacco.com) has a great selection and so does Lil Brown Smoke Shop. You can hand roll a filterless cig with a little practice and no new tools needed. The absolute best tool for rolling filterless is called a rollbox. Get the Gizeh one - NOT the Rizla one. With practice you can roll 20 in 15 minutes. But, like me now, I need less each day with my snusing habit taking over my smoking habit. These are my two cents on handrolling.

I do love the feel of good rolling tobacco, and smoking one of your own handmades is heaven really.

These are my 2, or 3 or 5 cents!

I have not received my toque yet, but have been sniffing some other snuffs and don't find it very rough at all. Its pretty nice really. The only thing now is learning how to do it stealthily. I guess its just the putting it in part. I reckon pinching with fingers and just bringing them up to nose and inhaling when no one is looking ought to do it. Its not near as complex as people make it out to be. Also seems very reasonable pricewise. And the kick is not near as heavy as dip or snus.
