    dangers of occasional cigarette

reading a study that happened in Norway I believe, they say that even up to four cigarettes a day is harmful to health. Curious what people think about having a cigarette once in a while. Is it that bad? I found some bugler and american spirit and tubes and have made a few cigarettes and really like them, but haven't really smoked since 1976 with occasional cigs through about 1980 when drinking. But pretty much been clean from cigs since then. Now, I like dip and snus but wonder if having a cig once in a while will kill me.

    Living will kill you :^P

I smoke the occasional cigarette, but I doubt it's any worse than driving your car and huffing exhaust the whole trip.

I'd be willing to bet that eating McDonald's once a week is worse for your heart than one cigarette a week is

So wait a minute, Does that mean that if I replace 20 cigs a day with 20 Big Macs, I'd actually be hurting myself? You just screwed up my smoking cessation plan.....dammit!! Back to relying on snus. 8)

I guess thats the same thing as binge drinking on only certain occasions and drinking a few a day are both harmful to ur health.

LMAO re: A.H.'s moustache!!! Hey, his initials were appropriate, were they not? I tend to agree about fast food. I'm trying to end my consumption of that garbage all together. I am 100% smoke-free, but not doing my body, large as it is, any favors by inundating it with "southern style chicken" from DickMonald's

Some people smoke two packs a day and live until they're ninety years old; others smoke one pack a day and die when they're forty. Whenever you smoke a cigarette, you are inhaling over 3000 hazardous chemicals into your lungs. The older you are, the worse your body gets at fighting off poisons. I would say that even one cigarette a week would have some negative impact on your health. Even though it may not be as severe as smoking a pack per day, you have to remember that inhaling all of those chemicals over time can shorten you life.

The real danger to those of us who have quit smoking already is that smoking the occasional cigarette increases our chances of total relapse ten-fold. It's not the one cigarette a week that will harm you, it's the one cigarette every other day, then every day, then 5 times a day, and before you know it you're back to the pack.

I'd have to say, your absolutely right about the age thing. There are studies that suggest that 5 cigs a day won't hurt you any more than not smoking at all. (Old data in my head) I used to run with a group called the Hash House Harriers. Many of us would take off on our runs (3 to 5 miles) with cigs in our mouths!! And we were proud of it!! After the runs, we always had a ceremony where people with new shoes had to drink beer out of them, everyone got shitfaced, it was blast!! Now, I'd be lucky to walk half the trail! (Trail changed every run)

Point is, Cigs have totally screwed up my life! I scubadived back then too, last time I tried to dive, I almost killed myself! (Thankfully, I'm so well trained, I knew what to do! :P ) Snus helps, but I'm still smoking....I need to get serious and face the fact that I'm not a young stud anymore. That really sucks!!

I've heard of doctors suggesting to patients that they smoke 2 cigs a day for irritable bowel, but would the have written a 'scrip for Marlboro if there was a store that sold General portions right around the corner? I don't think so...

well I have been having one or two cigs a day. The first one is sometimes oppresive in that I guess its the carbon monoxide, but the second one is nice. A french inhale seems to cool it a bit..... I do like it. I have been making my own American Spirits with a bugler machine and gambler tubes. I also bought a cigarette case. For me it wasn't quit cigs with snus, but get hooked on nicotine and come back to cigarettes! I don't expect I will ever take it up full time--can't... society won't allow it... but at least I can have one when I want one. Somehow it feels good doing something so bad. I just read a book called 'health benefits of tobacco'. I sometimes do get irritable bowel. I think snus, and snuff has helped prevent its recurrence. Glad to know a couple cigs a day may also help prevent it.

I don't know any people that smoke one or two cigarettes per day. Sure, that's how everyone starts out, but it eventually goes up and up and up... you probably know what I mean. Any doctor that recommends smoking tobacco cigarettes is a complete moron. The health benefits of cigarettes do not even come close to the consequences.
