      Like several of the other posters here have hinted at, you're getting your nicotine, but cig smoking is a two-headed beast. You have the physical addiction, and the psychological habit.

      Basically, you want to take a tally of all the things that trigger you to smoke, and associate them with using snus instead. Gotta have that smoke after coffee or a meal? Pop in a portion or a pris instead.

      The hardest one for me was the car. Now, when I get in the car, I start the engine, crack the window like I did when I was smoking...and pop in a portion instead of lighting up.

        Catch Dry Peppermint only contains 4mg nicotine per pouch. If your gums absorb 10-20% of nicotine from snus, this means you are getting around 0.5mg nicotine in one hour! A cigarette delivers around 1.0-1.5mg nicotine within minutes. I would recommend switching to a normal or stark strength snus. The higher nicotine levels will help kill the desire to smoke.

          What you said spirit is 100 percent true, if i pop in a snus when i get in the car (A large portion) the cravings dont come. ive also realized that i need to have a snus in at all times or the cravings will sneak up on me, and by that time it is too late.
          The nauseous feeling i was getting with the large portion has pretty much ceased, got used to it..
          BTW i love the minis (even tho only a few come in strong portions)when im in class sitting in the front and i pop in a snus the proffessor is none the wiser....i feel like im getting away with something. Its almost as if i could get away with lighting up a cig sitting in the front of class and no one giving a shit. I mean if he asks ill just say "Oh they are mints, mini teabags that you suck on, tums, ..."
          Also in my Chemistry Lab class my teacher has a STRICT no gum policy, meaning he sees you your kicked out. No one even notices not even Mr. Anal himself!

            Not sure if this will help you, but it helped me....

            one night i arrest some guy for crack cocaine. he was begging me to let him go, and he would give me information on other dope goings on. i told him no, then he started begging me to let him have a hit of the crack i caught him buying, and that he hadnt had any all day. that sealed it for me, because i just equated it to me wanting a cigarette, and i thought, well, im no better than this guy...he has crack, i have cigarettes. we are both addicts, and we are both killing ourselves. thats about all i needed. i still enjoy my vitamin N, but feel 100% better without cigarettes, and now the smell of them actually kinda bothers me. sometimes you just need to find your muse. it just sucks for him because he does not have "safe crack"

              Welcome, I've been using snus since July and I still smoke sometimes. I find it very difficult to ignore the cravings, even with a lip full of los. I think there's something self-destructive about me.
              Not just you, I've got the same damn problem. It's the lighting, smoke through the nose, flicking the ashes thing that you don't have with snus. I'm trying to get used to new rituals, stuffing my ice tool, playing with it for a while, wiping off the flakes, etc. Hopefully, I'll be able to kick the damn cigs out the door very soon.

              Did you give him some Skruf Stark Los??? He may have been cured on the spot!!! (Maybe not, don't know, I've never gone the coke route)

                I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are (OP). I'm on day three without cigs and still get cravings all the time. the best advise I would give you is not to beat yourself up for the occasional cigarette. only one a day is not bad at all and pretty soon I'm sure the desire for that will subside. these forums have been a help for me, I'm too busy reading to think about smoking. good luck.

                  It takes 12 months from my experience till the impulse to light up a cigarette is gone. Smoking is just a strong habit. For everyone who has not only an impulse but strong cravings, I can only say, don't fool around with miniportions or other nonsense. Use strong portions or lös instead!

                  For everyone who wants to overcome both, the smoking-habit and the nicotine-addiction, I also say start with strong snus and switch to miniportions, when you're ready for them.

                  And last but not least, snus is certainly not for everyone, but I also recommend to try at least two full cans. Don't give up, if the first portion tastes strange.

                  Just my two cents, I don't know if they are of any use, everyone is different, but I just have been lucky with snus from the beginning. It took some will to get the cigarettes out of my mind and to get used to snus, but I really can say that from my first snus-portion on, I didn't have any major cravings for cigs.

                    I went 2 days no smokes, broke it sat night at a party with 4 cigs, BUT that was the end of my pack
                    BTW!!! i got my night vision back! i was laying in bed going "**** i left the lights on again.....wait no lights are on....I CAN SEE!!!!"

                      I finally broke out the Mocca+ minis I've had in the freezer. Brought them on the plane with me, and popped in a portion. Ohhh, NOT good, strong yes, but the juice almost made me puke. A full pris tool of LD los doesn't do that, Ettan, Skruf, no problem. I was hoping these mini's would be the key to getting me off smokes during the day (Can't have mud mouth at work). Now I'm thinking a half pris of LD would be better. I think the small size allowed it to slide around, causing my lip to salivate more. Not sure, but it wasn't good. What brand is working for you?? :?:

                        mongrul what i have started doing since ive been trying more and more snus, and quiting is still tough, its not the addiction but missing cigarettes, missing "that feeling".
                        Anyways i like the general large portion and i have a few tins of catch dry peppermint. i take an old peppermint CD tin (because its small) and place about 8 minis in the big compartment and about 2-3 generals in the top lid, all the rest stays in the fridge. then throughout the day i always!! have a mini in except for lunch. and when it just isnt cutting it and i feel like bummin a smoke i pop in a general knowing if i take a puff itll make me sick, plus eliminates Nic cravings. Therefore i theoretically never want to smoke.
                        On a separate note i went 3 days without a cigarette but a friend had some rolling paper with tobacco tonight had to try it! ......Sucked ass! wheres that good feeling i used to get? is it gone? i hope so. Still sucks :cry: goodbye my sweet cancer sticks

                        ~Ive learned than if your standard is minis keep a large portion around for cravings, large portion norm than keep a stark around ....

                            I've been alternating N&J West and Ettan Originals this week, and I've found them to be a really good combination. I left a portion of N&J West in for a long time, and instead of a bad aftertaste, it actually tasted better as time went on, great flavor. It was an awesome find.

                              Cigarettes and the crack effect

                              Cigarettes spike your brain nicotine levels quickly by using your lungs to get to your bloodstream. Unfortunately, all other methods, including snus, seem to rely on slower absorption through the mucosa. (Even the "e-cigarette" where you inhale aerosolized nicotine works through the mouth, not the lungs) It's apparently like the difference between crack cocaine and snorted cocaine, the smoked version being much more addictive.

                              To get my nicotine levels up more quickly, so I don't crave cigarettes, here's what I'm doing:

                              1. Using los snus: more surface area in direct contact with your gums means quicker absorption. (An icetool or prismaster is essential to make this quick and easy) Plus it's much more comfortable having soft ground up leaves against your gums instead of a teabag.

                              2. Using stark snus: more nicotine available means quicker absorption.

                              3. Double up: put more surface area at work for you. Put a pris on both sides on your upper lip when you KNOW you need it. (This is especially critical for me first thing in the morning)

                              4. Anticipate your need for a cigarette: give your nicotine levels a head start, since snus takes longer to work. Don't wait for the craving for an after-meal cigarette. You KNOW you're going to want one. Stuff a pris in the moment you finish eating. That way your levels will be on their way up by the time the craving starts. Probably helps me eat less, too.

                              5. Before quitting, I used both snus and cigarettes for a while. Sometimes both at once. I think this got me used to higher sustained nicotine levels so the snus didn't make me feel woozy.

                              But if you feel woozy from too much nicotine, don't switch to a lower nicotine snus. Yes, that will give you a lower ultimate nicotine level, but it will also slow your absorption, and if you want to replace cigarettes, you need a quick jump in levels. Use a stark, just take the pris out when your nicotine levels feel high enough.

                              Quitting cigarettes is pretty easy so far. I'm using Skruf Stark Los with an icetool. Yay.

                                Sorry, but this is just wrong. I've been an e-smoker for 11 months now and contribute daily to the e-cigarette forum. Almost without exception, every e-smoker inhales the nicotine vapor deep into the lungs. Health New Zealand measured 98% absorption of nicotine by the lungs using this method.

                                The nic hit with 36mg e-liquid (basically the same strength as a regular cigarette) is every bit as immediate as inhaling tobacco smoke.
