IMHO, a woman that doesn't realize the massive harm reduction from cigarettes and judgmental enough that she would try to force you to quit or leave you is not a woman worth keeping.

I don't know I'd ever quit snus for another person. (although i did quit cigs for my mother), but then again, outside of my family, i'm not sure I know many ppl who don't smoke or use snus or something of that nature....

*shrug* I don't have any intention of quitting snus....of course, I had no intention of quitting cigarettes fully either.. but here I am over a month later, and I haven't had one.

*edit* i had no intention of fully quitting cigarettes up UNTIL over a month ago when I quit for my mother... shoulda clarified that.

Most of the girls worth being with of my generation are NOT tobacco users and are totally against it. I know very few girls that smoke. About half the guys I know smoke. It is unfortunate that they do not understand or care to understand about the benefits of harm reduction. Generally I am not attracted to those type of narrow minded pussy willows but they do slip through the cracks and if I come to love one of them and get a reprimand to quit or a goodbye then I quit. But I am going to do everything in my power to not let that happen. Not particularly keen on going through withdraws. Two or three hours without any nicotine makes me almost nonfunctional. Couldn't imagine what two or three days would feel like.

And just to clarify, only reason I quit for Trudy is because of her heart condition, NOT because she didn't like me using snus. I just don't ever see myself being with a woman who thought my habits mattered that much.

But if I was with a woman whose heath was affected from absorbing trace amounts of nicotine, of course I would put her health above my love for snus.

Your a stronger man than me. The whips of pink love can get a strangle hold on me if I like/love her.

I'm coming to a possible crossroads as far as snus usage. For me it was never to replace cigarettes, so It's not like I'm saving money by doing it.

So I have the equivalent of 3 full cans left(various kinds), and I simply don't have the cash-on-hand to place another order. It's going to run out before I do.

I have a single can of nasal snuff, and I was going to start hitting that more regularly when I run out. At this point I don't feel like nicotine is that important to me, however I also might be taking it for granted since I normally don't remember If I have a portion in or not. When I don't have any more at all, it may be a different story.

So I'll be on a fast from snus. Either the nasal snuff is going to replace it, it will help me step down and quit altogether, or I'll beg the snus god for forgiveness and go steal some car stereos to pay for my next order.

I originally switched to snus with the thought that it would lead to quitting dipping. At the moment, I probably have five to six months worth of snus stockpiled in the freezer, so that is not going to happen anytime real soon. If I was convinced I could quit and stay quit, though, I would flush the lot down the toilet in a heartbeat. I enjoy my snus but I hate the fact I am dependent on anything, makes me feel weak.

Every other risk aside, It's just plain hard on my gums.

After 16 years of smoking I'm thrilled that snus has allowed me to look the other direction and finally live life without the stench and coughing and expense associated with cigs. But I'm hoping that snus will be a stepping stone on the way to being tobacco free. Same goes for my first order of snuff I received yesterday  I think I've spent enough time enjoying tobacco and nicotine, and hopefully I'll get away with only very minor consequences. (I still plan on enjoying a cigar from time to time, or maybe a pipe in my old age). Good luck to all of you on a similar mission, and happy snusing to those who aren't!
After I'd quit smoking for 2 years, smoking the odd cigar led me back to cigarettes. cigar here and there,...cigar a week,...3-5 a day,...back to cigarettes 2 packs a day

I didn't consider that angle of it, sagedil. I suppose I'd have to quit in that situation too. *cringe*

For the most part, I quit smoking a year ago, but I started using chew a few months later. Then I moved on to snus, which I find less addicting. I will probably give it up all together one day. I have already cut down a lot because of it.

I will probably always smoke other people cigarettes when I am out and drinking though.

I intend to completely stop smoking cigarettes by the time I turn 30. However, I have no intention of quitting snus. I've been using it for a year and a half and I've had no problems with it. My dentist says that my gums look great and my teeth have never looked better. My doctor is overjoyed that I no longer smoke two packs per day. He's read about snus and told me that in his opinion, I have very little to worry about; that if I'm not willing to quit tobacco entirely, snus is the best choice.

I've been snusing for a month now, and although I have had the odd thought or two about quitting, I don't see the point at the moment. I enjoy it, it doesn't damage my health like when I was smoking. Importantly, I have had none of the i must quit thoughts that I did have when I smoked, so there is less pressure.

I know I'd find it very hard to quit snus, because of the high levels of nicotine. I may give it a go, but I don't really see the point right now.

My perspective is a little different; as an alcoholic, I don't like the thought of being hooked on anything at this point. Plus, years of abuse and neglect are starting to pile up, so I need to turn things around.

I don't think I'll find a safer or more enjoyable delivery system, so snus is great as a stepping stone, an opportunity to break all the fiddly oral-fixated parts of the habit and not worry about physical nic withdrawal.

As for pure nicotine, we have it at work. It is a SERIOUS contact poison. If you have to use it, you double-glove and are very careful with the compound itself, and concentrated solutions of it.
