Snus and Iritable Bowel Syndrome (unpleasent content)

I have a spastic colon and recently I have been having reoccurring diarrhoea. Does anybody know if the juice from snus could be upsetting my bowel? I have noticed it happens more when I use more snus, particularly strong portions.

It's having a pretty big knock on effect on my day to day life, I think my suspicions are correct... It's starting to look like game over for snus and I

I'll try and go a week without using snus and see what happens. And then start using it again to help rule out other factors.

Anybody else with IBS with any input?

I'm sorry you're having problems holnew :^( I've never really had any issues. Laying off the strong portions would definitely be a good start.

Most of the strong portions tend to trigger IBS for me. Strangely the only one that doesn't seem to for me is Skruf Stark which has been my firm favourite for quite a while now.

Tone down the higher nicotine snus and caffeine, get plenty of fiber (Citrucel) and also take a good probiotic supplement.

I would guess the problem is more the nicotine than snus specifically. Try minis, or stick with regular 8mg portions. Or small los pris(s?).

It is probably the nicotine causing you to "go." Were you a smoker before snusing? If so, quitting cigs might have caused your IBS to flare up.

Oddly enough, I had a thread like this one quite some time ago. I used to have terrible IBS (had to take a mild barbituate prescribed by my doc to settle intestinal spazms).

Since switching to snus over a year ago, I have been able to get off those meds, and I also poop much less frequently. I also no longer get the chronic diarrhea that I used to get.

Diet changes usually help quite a bit; I would at least try that before giving up snus. I agree with TexDis that you should maybe try some supplements, also.

                  metamucil works wonders for me.

Yes, I think I'll go back to regular portions, or los. I still smoke unfortunately.

I'm not using snus too much at the moment, hence my lack of posting. I'm having a wonder whether it's something I actually want to do any more.

I'll try cutting back on the nicotine, then I'll see how I feel.

I'm also planning on quitting cigarettes at some point in the near future, although I'm not sure how feasible it is with the stress I'm currently under (which doesn't help the IBS).

I'll look in to these remedies, thanks guys.

nicotine and caffeine, I agree will definately contribute to "getting a move on", as with many other stimulants.
Moderation is the key, given the resulting examples of our more exuberant, multi-portion-at-once experimenters!
the digestive suppliments strike me as a fine idea, especially for recurring upsets.

From the info I've just scanned, there definitely seems to be consensus as to an aggravation of IBS by nicotine.

A good idea to cut down to the regular strength portions.

Let us know how you get on, sorry you're going through this.
