I wish you a speedy recovery Premium Parrots. God willing, everything will work--if you need to lose the snus, then by all means quit. Life is precious.

This may an uncomfortable question, but what is your Body Mass Index? You don't have to tell any of us. Simply go to this link and enter your weight and height.

      http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

It seems you are following a very healthy lifestyle though; good diet, little alcohol, and no smoking. If you're overweight, your heart takes a beating. My grandpa has been overweight for decades and has experienced two heart attacks and a stroke. He also smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day for 30 years (he quit when he was ~35 years old). Just make sure not to smoke a single cigarette! Even though you are not ingesting any sodium, the carcinogens and radiation from smoking are far worse than snus (I'm sure you already know this). Anyways, good luck to you. Remember to keep a positive attitude!

Not sure how much sodium you are resticted to, but assuming I understand this correctly, and the info is accurate:

[quote="aardvark"]The 2.25 g of salt in the loose are not just sodium but sodiumchloride actually, so to get the real amount of sodium alone in the loose we need to do some calculations:
Sodiumchloride weights 55.5 g per mole -> this means that the 2.25 g of salt per can equal 0.04 moles of sodiumchloride.
Now, sodium alone weights 23 g per mole which means that the 0.04 moles of sodiumchloride contain 0.04 moles x 23 g/mole = 0.9 g of sodium.

looks like actual sodium is 36% of salt listed in snus, so 50 mg salt as sodiumchloride would equal 18g of actual sodium. If this is accurate snus could prob fit in your diet.

As a positive note, my Dad had an aortic aneurism diagnosed and replaced 3 years ago (very serious and often fatal) and is doing well after open heart surgery to replace with a teflon tube, he's on 4 blood pressure meds but is doing fine, he really has to watch his blood pessure too now. Might be worth the investment, if you haven't already, of a cuff and monitor to see if the snus appears to have any effect. Hopefully docs can diagnose your condition and improve or fix. Best of luck to you.

I just checked the V2 website and all products (offroad, phantom, thunder, nordstromenn) contain 5% salt, not 5% sodium. This should be very good news for PP since 1 mg of salt contains 0.4mg of soduim (40% of salt is sodium). So basically a 1g portion of V2 products contains 20mg of sodium.

Yea, V2 is 5% salt per 1 gram portion which is 20mg sodium but most SM snus contain even less salt and less sodium:

Ettan Portion Snus 2.0% salt ==== 8mg sodium (lowest of the bunch)
              General Portion 2.5% salt
              General White Portion 3.5% salt
              General Mini Portion 3.0% salt
General White Mini Portion 4.0% salt
              General Silver Portion 3.0% salt
General Sterk, Strong White Portion 4.0% salt
General EKSTRA Sterk, Strong White Portion 3.0% salt
General Onyx Premium Portion 3.5% salt

Best of luck to you Premium Parrots & get well soon OK? we are waiting.

Thank you all for your concern. I had the tests, my arteries are pretty clear. And the diagnosis is that my heart is only working at 50 %. I kind of suspected such because I've been on meds for about 5 years, my cholesterol is perfect and I've been eating right. Also a test I had 2 weeks ago kind of led me to expect the worst. I have a weak heart and severe hypertension and now they don't want me to lift anything, take it easy, on a strick diet, and all that other crap. My heart will never get stronger but I can manage it so i can have some more years. Better than cancer tho. Doc says I could live a long time but I have to be very carefull of my heart. Oh well.

On a lighter note............snus and snuff seem to calm me. I've done several tests checking my BP before consuming, 1 minute in, 3 minutes in, and so on. My BP goes down. he he he.............

                Again,Thank you,
                PP

I'm glad to hear that PP :^)

At least you can in good conscience use tobacco. I guess your diet doesn't allow much in the way of treats. Tobacco will help make you happy, and keep life fun :^)

There was ONE thing the doc said I could eat all that I want. And never gain an ounce.

Glad to hear from you, mate! Been kinda worried, but it's good to hear you got some time left. Guess those prayers did some good after all. =D

So does this mean that snus and snuff have a therapeutic affect that's beneficial for you?
