I'm not saying most Americans wouldn't make the cigarette to snus conversion, I'm saying most haven't.
And, I'll go out on a limb here and say that most won't.
At this point, every single smoker in the U.S. (with some level of awareness) knows that smoking is the single most preventable cause of death according to the World Health Organization. Most will smoke until the day they die. Why is that?
I'm sure there are some "snus snobs" out there. Personally, I don't pretend that I'm better than cigarette smokers, or that their tastes are inferior to mine. The simple fact is, people tend to stick with what they know, and what works for them. Cigarettes and snus are very different nicotine delivery methods (quick fix versus IV drip, the ritual of the lighter, inhaling the smoke, the unique social element.) Non-smokers totally miss out on the conversations held during smoke breaks (which can be the best.) Then again, smokers totally miss out on snussing in the shower (anyone else love this?)
I find it interesting that while many threads about politics and pastimes spark debate, the majority of posters tend to often find quite a bit in common. The percentage of libertarians here does not line up with the percentage of libertarians in the U.S. (unfortunately.) It's easy to think this forum represents the population as a whole, but it doesn't. It doesn't necessarily mean that this "community of snusers" needs to be elitist (because, quite frankly, it isn't.) It just represents a minority.
America has a love/hate relationship with cigarettes, and I just don't see what happened in Sweden with their smoking bans happening to the same extent here. It can be debated ad infinitum, but only time will tell...
For all the flak cigarettes get, they get romanticized a ton.
I want the following analogy to be completed:
Quentin Tarantino is to Zippo lighters as _________ is to Icetools.
