    60 Hours and a Countin'

Just passed the 60 Hour mark. Decided to cold turkey the cigarettes with the use of snus(don't want to smoke anymore but still like the nicotine). Things have been great so far. Had to fend off an urge last night though because I was testing myself. Had 2 pouches within first 24 hours. Only one for the 48 hour period(testing myself) and passed with flying colors. So far, this stuff is great. And convenient. I can use these babies at work while working and noone notices a thing. And they've been around for hundreds of years? Wow! I probably never would have given them the time of day except I was reading through an issue of Maxim(really reading lol) and came across a coupon for it that was buy one get one free. Only I must have misread it or something because when I took it to the grocery store the chick was going to give me a free tin(taxes only of course...they were about .40). Anyway, I told her to go ahead and ring another tin. I figured what the hell? 2 for 1. All they had was Mellow so that's all I've tried. Another store in town has the ?Frost? flavored ones and I'll try them after I use these up, which may be a while. I can handle 1 pouch all day just fine(I was never a heavy smoker in the first place).

Am I satisfied so far? Yes I am! Convenience rules the day for me more than anything. I can literally be anywhere and use these. This is a godsend with the fall coming up and football games or whatnot. And the sense of smell is coming back. The taste thing was better at about the 36 hour mark. Of course, everything is improving bit by bit.

And they say the Swedish Snus is stronger? I don't know if I could handle stronger. The Camel Snus hold me over plenty! OK I'm through ranting but I've noticed that I get like this whenever I'm snusing really good. They make me relaxed and hyper(sounds like an oxymoron I know). Wierd. Best way to put it would be relaxed mentally hyper physically. There. If you read this, thanks for reading. Thanks for this forum. And thanks for Maxim which lead to my happenstance viewing of the buy one get on free advertisement.

Welcome to the boards and all that is awesome about snus!

If I may make a suggestion, spend a bit of time reading the posts here to familiarize yourself with what snus has to offer.

I too quit smoking with snus and I have been smoke fee for 9 months.

It's all a part of the testing phase. I wanted to see how I could handle just one pouch after seeing how well 2 pouches worked. Some people might say that's dangerous and could have led to a cig relapse. It's likely but it all worked out. I wrestled with the urge to grab a cigarette for a bout 40 minutes and it left me alone. I have a feeling it might be back but I'll be ready for it. I think once I'm really in the groove, two pouches a day will work fine. Three max. I find it best to put myself in the tough positions early to see how I make out. Last one was Sunday at 8 A.M. and that same pack is still in this house. I haven't thrown it out. But I do find myself thinking about it less and less and less. I didn't think about it at all today until I got back home this evening and saw it. That was a creepy feeling. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't have been thinking about anything else.

There is still much self testing to be done. I think for me a 2 week run will give a full analysis. Can't celebrate too much at this point because a new pair of steel toed shoes hardly means you're out of the woods.

Thanks for having me. Did not see a 'welcome aboard and introduce yourself' section. Maybe I overlooked it. Apologies if I did. I do plan to get very acquainted with the boards.

Welcome to the boards and congrats on laying down the cancer sticks! I too quit using snus (a common theme around here), but it wasn't with one portion a day..lol, I wish, but nope.

Yeah, reading the boards is how you can get your questions answered before you even ask them, or at least it did for me. However, if you do have a question feel free to ask, we are more than willing to answer what we can. This is a fantastic group, friendly and very knowledgeable about all things snus and tobacco for that matter.

            Have fun and again, welcome.

Welcome aboard and good luck with your desire to quit smoking. I am 3 months and 1 day without sigs with just snus to replace, so it is definitely possible. Make sure if you have one though not to beat yourself up. I know Sagedil will tell you it's ok if you smoke a cig here or there. I think the point is just not going back and quitting snus to start smoking again. Great job on how far you have come so far and keep on snusin.

I'm new to snus as well and I'm transitioning from cigarettes to snus. I'm only in my third day but I feel great and there have been no side effects except for sore gums. Usually if I've transitioned to nicorette in the past I've had some kind of nasty withdrawal - but nothing here.

This is my 14th smoke-free day thanks to snus. It could not possibly be any easier or more mindless.

Sorry to post again so soon but I've got a slightly swollen upper lip (without a portion in). Does this go away? Are you getting this too Sofarsogood?

I haven't had any sores or swollen lip or anything since I started.

Try to alternate sides of your mouth each time you load up.

Yeah dude, you really need to alternate sides when you first put the portion in, and then after you've had the portion in for a little while, move it further back in your mouth.

Your lips/gums will get used to it, almost everyone has some initial discomfort, just wait till the hemorrhoids hit...they pass after a few months too though.

                            LMAO, j/k about the hemorrhoids..

I've been snusin' for 6weeks. When I first started snus I thought that it was just not for me, just like cigs but kept on with it.

So like me I'm sure you'll soon get used to it.

When I first started off, my lips and gums became a sore and would burn a lot and I cut down to 2 portions a day on alternate sides, but after the first week week or 2 the swelling reduced and the burn was much less especially using lös compared to portions. 6 weeks later I hardly feel any burn and my inner lip only gets wrinkly if I leave a snus in a long time 1+ hours. The wrinkles go down after a few hours or overnight.

I take care to floss every night and brush with an electric toothbrush, which I highly recommend as it cleans my teeth really well and also massages the gums to reduce any gum recession.

Good luck on quitting the cigs. Snus is much more enjoyable anyway.
