    ctimb2002 needs your help!

Ok guys i'm back after dealing with my car troubles...new alternator installed fine and car is back to charging normally yay!

So this is your assignment if you choose to accept it. I am giving a persuasive speech in my speech class one week from now. I have decided to do it on a snus related topic. I want to lean towards one of these topics...
    1) FDA should approve snus for quitting smoking.
    2) People should use snus as a smoking cessation product
    3) Snus should be sold more widely in the U.S. and be supported by those who choose to snus over smoking.

Or anything that falls along the lines of those 3.

My quest for you is to help me pick and topic and to find supporting documentation. There are literally thousands of threads on this website alone pointing to different websites. Some would make great supporting articles for the speech others would be hurtful. Please post any relevant threads/articles/scientific studies and your pick for a topic. Thanks everybody for your help!

A harm reduction speech revolving around snus would be easy to plagiarize, er I mean write using the fairly large number of harm reduction articles around.

I'm definateley no professional writer, but i do think the topics themselves might need just a little tweaking 1. It's gonna be hard to persuade people that the FDA will ever go for this. They will never approve snus for smoking cessation....Maybe try - The FDA should admit that snus is far less harmful than smoking or American ST, and is a far safer way to quit smoking. 2. I wouldn't use the word should. Because it tends to give people the idea that you're telling them what to do. Words and phrases like It's a good idea to use snus for smoking cessation, or It would greatly benefit you to switch to snus. And then present your evidence and personal experiences...but make sure it's hard evidence and as far as personal testimony...i'll let you quote me all day long, and i'm sure many others would too! And man it would take a man with gorilla balls to touch that one! With all the present raising of tobacco taxes- that one's gonna be a toughy! I'll get to a computer and send my findings to your email.

My 2 cents: If you go with option #2 or a topic along the lines of "Why snus is better than cigarettes", you could get away with using many of your OWN opinions, (how snus has personally helped you, how your health has improved since quitting cigs, etc) thus making your speech a persuasive speech. <--of course, you'll still have to back up your opinions with SOME literature. If you choose to state reasons why you think the FDA should approve snus, you'll probably end up having to cite LOTS of medical stuff. If you've done research on health risks/benefits of snus, you'll quickly discover that it's hard to find 'solid' medical info. Depending on who wrote the article, I've found that many professionals, M.D's, either slam snus or approve it. Basically, from what I've read, doctors are not all in agreement about snus. Just my input and what I personally would do. Thank god I am done with all that college crap! Don't miss it a bit! Well, I miss some aspects of it. Good luck...

Sorry, I had trouble opening it but I'm sure it was awesome. I remember speech class from college. A theater professor taught it so he was really into helping us almost like actors bring the speech to life.

Have you decided on a major yet?
