    Mouthwash?

I've never been a big user of mouthwash, but now that I'm snusing, I really want to make sure I'm doing what I can do reduce the chances of gum recession and gingivitis.

What mouthwash do you guys use? I've heard that ones containing alcohol should be avoided, but I'm not really sure why.

One that doesn't dry my mouth out would be great, if such a creature exists.

Act is a good non-alcohol mouthwash that has been recommended to me. I use peroxide with water and it seems to do a good job.

      Dr. Tichenors

Try that. Crazy part is, I really don't think they sell this stuff everywhere. It's all over the place here in the south. Word to the wise.....do not do not do not take full strength. Dilute with water 5:1. Don't say I didn't warn you. I've been using it for years before I even knew snus existed. I made the snus transition flawlessly. No mouth sores at all. Of course, I do alternate sides of the mouth when snusing(learned that one from reading this site). Seems to make a difference? Of course, I'm also pretty big on taking my vitamins. Lots of factors can go into why anyone might have issues with snusing. But mouthwash? I'd recommend the tichenors.

Since I started using Snus a few months ago I thought I'd better get some mouthwash.

I'm glad you've posted this because just the other day my gums started bleeding. I googled it and found it to be the alcohol mouthwash. I've stopped using it and right enough my gums are fine again.

You don't need mouthwash, just brush twice a day.

I use Arm&Hammer toothpaste...any of the ones with peroxide. Followed up with either water or some diluted lysterine. I only use the lysterine in times I have like a cold or something. Seems to help with cough and phlem...tmi...

My dentist actually recommended diluted peroxide after brushing. Helps heal any damage. I'd call what snus does almost a "burnt" spot on the gum. Alternating between loose and portion has helped me, and switching up where I put it.

I also read an article few months back about sodas. Mt.Dew and Pepsi are like the worst thing for tooth health. Compared it to swishing acid around in your mouth.

"over the course of a few years that one soda a day can be worse than a few drops of diluted acid straight on the tooth surface"

Didn't you do that experiment in junior high where they had you dissolve a tooth in Coca-Cola? Took like a week or so if I remember and it was a pretty heady object lesson for an 8th grader, though it didn't stop me from drinking the stuff later on in life.

Any alcohol free mouthwash is good

                  Tom's of Maine etc

I think most of the big brands (Colgate etc) also now do a alcohol free version of their mouthwash.

Personally I'd stay clear of Listerine or any of the other harsh alcohol based mouthwashes.
