    Schizophrenia and nicotine

I found this article the other day, as a diagnosed schizophrenic I can relate to what they say. I'm afraid after the PACT act is enabled, my nicotine days will be over though. Being on a limited income, I think that taxation is getting out of hand on what provides people some relief to their lives.

kizh, don't sweat the small stuff. we're gonna have snus regardless of what these companies try to manipulate in cahoots with the government. hey, this internet is a big place, the world has it's own rules. the citizens in it can sidestep any government. peace out and don't fret, we can always grow our own tobacco and swap our own snuses.

Do you mind if I ask how nicotine has helped you personally? The study goes into little depth about the benefits in particular.

My mind just feels scattered at times, I'm not hardcore with hallucinations or serious paranoia. But at times its difficult to collect my thoughts as I'm writing or having a conversation with someone.

The nicotine helps keep me more focused, and feel more well grounded. I'm assuming this is cognitive ability.

There might be more to it than that, but its what comes to mind. I suppose nicotine does the same for non schizophrenics as well, I think the difference is without nicotine a normal person probably doesn't struggle as hard to keep peace of mind.

I wish they went into more detail as well.

I hope you are right Zman and all is well after these laws, I'm still going to stash all I can before it hits though

another interesting read, from their related stories links

          http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/featur...ain?page=0%2C0

It says nicotine helps with parkisons, attention deficit disorder, and dementia

Oddly RJ Reynolds has a therapeutic division working on medications that could give the benefits without the addictions (If I understand it correctly)

at one point of the story it mentioned their preferred delivery system was absorption through the mouth, lowering its addictive properties

I stopped freaking out about PACT when I realized I could apply some solid networking skills to have snus shipped to me privately. When there is a will, there is a way.

Of course, smart online shops could use inconspicuous packaging to hide snus in and alter the return label.

"There's no snus in here. Just a well-stuffed teddy bear."

It's still allowed to smoke in mental homes in Germany. I wonder how it is in other countries, but among reasonable medics there absolutely is no doubt about the positive aspects of nicotine, regarding mental illnesses. Thinking about how wide spread schizophrenia is among my relatives, I think one of the best things that I've ever done was to start nicotine-use in my youth. Till now there would have been enough concrete reasons for me to go totally crazy, even if I weren't genetically prestressed, without the help of that powerful medicine.

              Cheers!

I self-medicate my Aspergers (autism) with nicotine. It has done me a world of good.

It may be as simple as providing a low-level stimulant. It may also be 25lbs weight loss and a huge reduction in carbohydrates. Who knows? All I know is it is a massive improvment for me.

They passed a pretty strict no smoking policy in Turkey, but they allow it in mental institutions and prisons

It seems like discrimination to deny treatment to people through high taxes. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in self medicating for valid reasons
