    Snus Helps Smokers Quit?

Some smokers say they just can’t quit cigarettes. But previous studies of smokers in Sweden have suggested that many have done just that, by switching to smokeless tobacco. While not without health risks, smokeless tobacco is less harmful than cigarettes.

The more I use snus, and the more I read, the more convinced I am that it is harmless. It seems whatever claims against it are theoretical at best.

If those smokers are trying to quit using RJR's Camel then I can understand why they are having trouble quiting.

I used Swedish Snus and quit a 38 year habit so I know it worked for me. 8)

      tom502,
I don't think it is "harmless". I'm pretty sure that the increased nicotine probably messes with my blood pressure. (Just guessing). But if I wasn't using snus I'd probably be eating more and have increased problems from overeating. It's more about managed risk and I know I feel a lot better without the smokes.

Well, starting day 5 Amoke free and I gotta say way easier them previous attempts. Swedish snus has made all the difference! I'd did make the attempt a few months back with the camel bags and determined I woukd need 5 at a time to make a dent lol. Snuson!

I agree. I started out with Camel Frosted, but I still had the urge. When I switched to Swedish Snus, I was able to quit a 30+ year pack a day habit in less than 3 days!

I've tried both the patch and nic gum... they didn't work for me. Snus WORKS! I don't know why, but it does!

15 year smoking habit, the last 4 weeks of snus have been better than smoking ever was.

That's what keeps me from going back and cheating more than anything else. When I quit 9 months ago I was paying about $25 for a carton of Marlboro Reds. Between SCHIP and the tax increase added here in Florida July 1st that same carton is over $45. And if I want to buy a single pack I'll pay $6.

I've saved a couple thousand dollars in the 9 short months since I quit.

I hear ya! When I stopped I was paying around $30 a carton. Now cartons in the Western PA area are going for about $50!!! That's almost $5 s pack! If you have a pack a day habit, well- do the math. If prices keep going up smokers are going to be like crack addicts and stealing to support their habits.

With snus, I pay $3 for a can of Thunder Frosted and it lasts me 3 to 4 days. Plus, I don't have to listen to people bitch about the cigarette smoke. I only wish I knew about snus years ago.

Camel Mellow after 1 day Cold Turkey quelled a 30 cig a day habit, a habit I'd had for 34 years...smoking is sooo over for me! And Snusing is so fine! Other Snus is good too, but really, Camel Mellow with it's mere 8mg of nicotine works for me, Frost is too sweet.

I pop over to check out the snus forum periodically, although I depend heavily on nasal snuff, pipe smoking and my many electronic cigarettes to keep me away from cigarettes (for two years and a month now). But the most troubling thing I find here is the Camel bashing. Can't you hard-core Swedish snus lovers let some people enjoy the Camel Mellow or Frost? Give 'em a break. Not everyone digs your super-strong, bitter and salty tasting favorites. I like most snus, and keep Ettan and Lucky Strike for regular use, but will generally have a Camel tin in my rotation. Why? It tastes good. No other reason needed. Each to his/her own. Cut 'em some slack and stop making people feel inferior in some way. That's ridiculous and juvenile. You don't like Camel? Don't buy it. But if someone else does, leave them to their taste desires. Some posts border on snus snobbery!

Personally, I can't stand Camel Mellow; however, I do have six tins of Camel Frost in the freezer! Camel Frost finds itself in my rotation about once a month. I find it a good change of pace from the Swedish snus. Keep in mind the my everyday snus is Thunder Frosted. Camel snus is like "candy" next to it :!: Besides, everyone has a sweet tooth :P
