    Tobacco Harm Reduction Blog

I am a professor of medicine at the University of Louisville with a 15-year interest in tobacco harm reduction, and I have followed the discussions on this website for several months.

It is evident that snus users active on this site are very well informed about the differential risks of various tobacco products. I thought members might be interested to know about a tobacco harm reduction blog at: http://rodutobaccotruth.blogspot.com

You are well aware of the misinformation surrounding smokeless tobacco products, including irresponsible releases such as this one: http://health.usnews.com/articles/he...n-smoking.html My blog examines and comments on the scientific foundation for tobacco policies and fallacies.

My apologies if this post is in any way inappropriate. Please let me know if I can provide any information about the role of smokeless tobacco in harm reduction.

        Welcome to the forum, Brad!

Your work is very much appreciated among us snusers and those of us who also use other types of smokeless tobacco. The magnitude of brainless or agenda-driven misinformation about smokeless tobacco really is unbelievable.

        Cheers!

Many thanks for coming on the forum Professor Rodu and you are most welcome indeed.

Hopefully the truth will eventually tweak the consciences in Brussels.

I was particularly interested in the article about Nicotine Replacement Therapy. It has always been a particular frustration of mine as to why there is no NRT available for people that wish to use nicotine permanently. NRT that actually has a decent nicotine dose in it - and at a reasonable price.
It just doesn't add up ...........and people are dying in the meantime?

I work as support staff in a major medical research hub in London (basic scientific research) and realise how powerful any work done in this field is - but it's getting the 'tow the party line' politicians to wake up that is the problem.

This may sound sensationalist, but it is my opinion that the lack of any rational thinking with regard to nicotine by the politicians we have elected to be responsible for information on health is mass murder. I feel that it is irresponsible and negligent.

Sorry - lol - you know all that already :-)

                Dr. Radu,

Finding your 'For Smokers Only' Website really helped me to get off cigarettes, thank you.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the reception the reduced harm viewpoint receives today vs. when you first started. Do you see it gaining any sort of a foothold or will the official choice remain between abstinence and death?

                  Welcome to the forum!
It's good to see that there are American scientists out there who aren't on "ban tobacco" bandwagon.
I get the feeling you're going to be a valuable addition to the forum. Keep stopping by!

Thanks for posting; it's always nice to have a professional from the medical community share their knowledge on the tobacco subject.....especially when it's level-headed (don't go there, CJ) and researched properly.

A big welcome to Brad. A voice of reason and sanity amidst a chorus of misinformation.

You are one of the people that made me aware of snus, and since then getting off of cigarettes. My family and friends are happy. My dentist is happy. My doctor is happy. I'm happy. Lets all work to make the information and products available to everyone who wants to quit smoking.

Personally, I have been interested in tobacco harm-reduction for several years. Even though I discovered the benefits of snus versus cigarettes on my own, your website definitely added to the conclusive scientific evidence that smokeless is indeed less harmful than inhaled tobacco products. Its a pleasure to have you on this website.

As a personal question, do you snus yourself?

Professor, welcome to the boards! We're honored to have you here. Your work was a pretty large influence in my desire to quit, now if only the lawmakers would listen to you and all the folks here at SnusOn.

Great to see you here. I quoted you last year in an article I wrote for SmokeShop magazine's October issue on electronic cigarettes. You were influential in getting me to try snus and eventually quit cigarette smoking. For that, I thank you.

I presently use five e-cigs in rotation daily, snus all the time, Stonewall Java first thing in the morning and after every meal, and nasal snuff multiple times a day, as the mood strikes me. All good. All far, far better for me than smoking the 30 a day I did for decades.

Keep harm reduction going, as best you can. History will judge you kindly, even if politicians and "health" organizations with agendas do not do so today.
