ZERO nitrosamine tobacco in the works...

Star Scientific (Nasdaq: STSI) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals ("Rock Creek"), today reported on their continuing efforts to lessen the harm linked with tobacco use. Star Scientific, through its CEO Jonnie R. Williams, recently filed a new US Patent Application for a novel modification of its patented curing technology that results in the production of tobacco leaf that consistently contains levels of carcinogenic TSNAs (known as NNNs and NNKs) that are below detection even by the most sensitive measures. That patent application for zero-nitrosamine tobacco currently is pending before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Imagine that. ZERO nitrosamine tobacco. Hopefully this process will be implemented by snus-manufacturers, so the FDA and other governments have even less ammo against the prohibition of snus. Even though the levels of TSNAs in snus are virtually harmless, this process could open the doors for the sale of snus worldwide.

The company that has patented this process in America is Star Scientific, the maker of Stonewall and Ariva tobacco pellets.

Sounds good to me. Seems like a pill that helps the pancreas handle nicotine would help snus more.

I just ran across this again while searching for non fermented tobacco to make my own snus. It seems like some of the big companies have placed some large orders for this tobacco. I hope we will see some snuff/ chewing tobacco/pipe tobacco that uses this starcure method. It could be a good source for DIY snus tobacco.
