Quote: "These data do not support any strong association between snus use and risk for cardiovascular disease."

In the Swedish Construction worker study, they were primarily looking for cancers. It was later said that the study was flawed when examining both instances of pancreatic cancer and cardiovascular disease because they didn't factor in any other possible causes besides snus use or smoking, both, or neither. They didn't keep track of diets, drinking habits, or use of other substances.
Apparently snus users are more likely to get fat, though.

Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that construction workers are more likely to inhale/ingest things daily that can cause cancer. This is not the case for most people who work "normal" jobs. Construction workers are also prone to not giving a shit about exercise, healthy food, regular medical check-ups, etc.

There are actually a wild array of variables to that study...

As a summer-time construction worker, and being around it my whole life, I can verify and corroborate EVERYTHING you just said
I'm pretty sure the same is true in Sweden

I'm technically obese at over 230 lbs, and I haven't weighed myself in a while, but I have noticed my pants are more loose, and my belt, even the one I had to make an extra hole in. I think I may have lost weight with snus, as during the work day I have a snus in, whereas before, I'd be stuffing my mouth with chips and snacks.

In other words there's a higher likelihood of dieing from a heart attack, but not a higher likelihood of getting one in the first place.
Frankly, I'd be willing to be that this could be attributed to Nicotine--which is, after all, a vasoconstrictor. Not the best thing if you're suffering a heart attack from some other cause.

But that's just the thing, huh? It isn't the nicotine that's *causing* the heart attack.
