Human Nature

Over the years I noticed a change in human nature, when I was young, honesty was a mainstay. Today it seems that people will turn down free truth to by some idiots bulls**t. It just baffles me anymore.

This site is obviously out there to collect research information from young people with regard to snus.

The products are so well pictured as to be appealing (usually you have to be over 18 to see these images on the corporate sites), and surrounded by a "hip" website environment.

It is obviously something with a tobacco company behind it, or at least a research company with tobacco money.

If it's not, it is an epic, epic fail.

That an interesting take on it. What kind of information do you think they would be looking for?

Fixin' to have me a coronary. I just about lost it in the comments section reading all those comments from wonderful teenagers saying things like....

Boy:"YEAH, THIS IS SO BAD 4 U, LETS STP IT B4 IT GETS OUT OF CNTRL"

Girl: "OMG JAKE UR SO RITE. ILY <3 NEWAY, THIS PRODUCT IS TOTALLY ADVERSED (IDK HOW 2 SPELL IT) 2 KIDS"

And then the stupid adults arrive, even those who did their research, yet totally don't have the aptitude to examine research results and statistics:

"Yeah, I agree about lower rates of lung and mouth cancers, but YOUR RISK OF PANCREATIC CANCER IS INCREASED!!!!!!!!!!! SO IT'S WORSE THAN SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >_<"

Well, if you knew the statistics to begin with you'd see that it's only a jump from 4 in 10,000 to 8 in 10,000. Ok?

Then the completely clueless adults like this one: "MY 15 YEAR OLD STEP BROTHER HAS CAMEL SNUS. "I HAVE NO IDEA HOW HE GOT IT, BUT HE DID!"

Seriously, lady? Get real and join the rest of the world you ****ing tree stump. I used to teach inner city kids who would carry on their person all manner of things ranging from switchblades to box cutters, crack cocaine and all the accoutrements of drug sales to SCHOOL every day. Fourteen, 15, and 16 year old kids (the older ones already dropped out). This lady has got her head buried DEEP in the sand. Must have been an all star tennis player in high school, and then went on to her secluded, private Christian womens college in the ****ing Adirondacks.

The idiocy of that website SICKENS ME!

thanks tex, what especially hurt me was the anti's actually saying "so what if snus helped you quit your 50 year tobacco habit, you just traded one for another which is probably *worse* for you"

now that's just terrible. they hated us for smoking in restaurants, they hated us for smoking in cars with kids, they hated us for smoking in our own homes. once they had banned everything they hated us for, except cigarettes, they looked for and found (invented) problems with what we picked to replace what they'd hated us for all along.

Please update your website to be more accurate. Snus is not being marketed towards children. However, CAMEL Snus may be (I'm really not convinced, but that's really a matter of perspective). Snus has been around for hundreds of years, and I see no evidence of General Tobacco or any other Sweden-based tobacco company marketing to children. If I missed something, please let me know.

Also, the Swedish government has studied this stuff to death. As a result of one of their studies, snus in Sweden no longer has the "may cause cancer" warning label. I appreciate you trying to educate underage tobacco users about the risks of snus, but you can do that more effectively without inaccurate blanket statements and sensationalist wording.

The fact that this organization is "for profit" implies that one can pay for its services. A tobacco company can pay, and use the collected information for whatever purposes are required.

The market research gathered by the company can also be packaged and sold. Want the 12 to 17 demographic opinion of snus packaging? Here it is.

The main reason I am skeptical is that Philip Morris pioneered the model of the deceptive tobacco company youth smoking prevention program.

"Talk to your kids about smoking" was the program. It's based on research that underage smoking begins in the home. Little Billy sees daddy smoking. Little Billy loves daddy. Mom and Dad 'talk' to Billy about how harmful smoking is, and not to do it. Billy rebels at 13 and nicks his smokes from Dad's nightstand. Meets friends at the mall. Done deal.

Is this different?
