    Snus&Oral Surgery

I'm going to get my wisdom teeth cut out, apparently I'm a little slow on this one.

Anyone have this done? Can you use snus during this, or does the drip cause any infection or affect your open sores in any way? I'm not sure about any of this, may use the patch while I'm recovering unless anyone has any good info about it.

    Thanks.

I had mine cut out last year, and my mouth was so swollen I didn't WANT anything in there for a couple of days...They tell you not to smoke because it causes dry sockets, but I don't know if snus would be safe or not. If you are having the surgery, you'll be so out of it all day you won't want anything anyway

tbh, i would just sit this one out.

i have heard so many stories about people putting things in their mouths after getting teeth pulled and having the clot slough off or getting infected that i think the plan should be put as little in there while you're healing as possible. my mom tried to suck on a ritz cracker until it became soft, and got infected.

i really don't think that the juice of the snus would cause you to get infected, since during this time you'd be able to drink and eat really soft foods like yogurt. but i know that you absolutely cannot suck anything because it creates a pressure imbalance in your mouth, and i know that since i snus in my lower lip that sometimes i do suck on it a bit to get the extra juice out of the portion.

i was in the hospital for a week this summer and honestly didn't have the urge to snus or ask for a patch. pain meds tend to make you feel REAL good

Just had an upper rear tooth pulled yesterday. After it was pulled I went the rest of the day without snus but this morning I tossed one in. I'm keeping the snus away from that side of my mouth and all seems to be well......so far. I'm not really worried about it getting infected as long as I don't suck on that side. I'll use as little as I can today but tomorrow I get to try all the new goodies I received from Northerner yesterday [right before I went to the dentist].
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled in august after terrible pain for months on end. I had 2 terrible infections associated with my wisdom teeth because one on my lower right side was half way through allowing junk to get stuck no matter how much i tried to keep it clean...i'm 21 and should have gotten them pulled when i was in highschool but then i did not care. I did not have health insurance until just this past august. After they were out and i got hydro's i was hesitant at first about snusing. I only had a couple during the days. I think you will be ok as long as you don't suck on it and i would not keep it in for to long!

They helped me poop when on the hydro's since they make you constipated in some way. So i would say, if you can't hold off just have a couple and do the best you can to not cause pressure in your mouth i never got a dry socket from the surgery so i consider myself lucky. I also lightly smoked that illegal substance that's not so bad for you too!

oh and btw they gave me plenty of gauze in this ziploc bag and i never used it all. One day i was cleaning my bathroom and found the bag of gauze and decided it could come in handy maybe for an injury someday so i took the gauze out and noticed some of the gauze was wrapped up so i started to take it apart to find out they put my wisdom teeth in there...That was a scary sight as they were bloody and all four were in there

Shit. You'd be way better off just to get a flight to London and get them done on the National Health Service while you were here.

Not that I'm encouraging health tourism of course...

I think you should ask you oral surgeon if it would be ok, better safe than sorry. I am not a medical professional, so don't take my advice (legal disclaimer) but I think snus would be ok, tobacco is antiseptic, so I don't think it would cause an infection.

I was a slowpoke too and had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out when I was 25. My jaw was very sore, and I ate mac and cheese for about a month since that was all I could chew. I was dipping at the time and laid off until my mouth was healed, but honestly my mouth hurt so bad I wasn't really tempted. I had a friend who got an infection after her wisdom teeth were out, and it was hell, so I was very over cautious after my surgery.

LOL i was ready to commit DMS when i had tooth pain last year from my lower wisdom teeth coming in - pain was so bad that i could not put pressure on my face at night, so i was on no sleep (to add to the bitchiness, lol).

THIS WORKS WONDERS, however: 2 xtra strength tylenol and 3 motrin ib every 4-6 hours as needed. this was the ONLY thing that made my tooth pain manageable.

codeine did nothing for my tooth pain except make me vomit.

you have to do the tylenol and the motrin at the same time... they won't work individually. so get some water and pop 5 pills - swear to god, this was the only thing that stopped me from sawing my jaw off.
