    Dental Hygiene ...?

So I have been a smoke for about 5-6 years. I am finally quitting. Last 1 and a half weeks I am down to 3-5 smokes a day TOPS. Thanks to the help of Camel Snus. Monday is when my good stuff comes, hopefully I will be quitting completely.

Now here is my problem. I know that smoking isn't the best for my teeth. I brush 2 times a day, floss and use mouthwash. I have always had good teeth. I don't know why really. I had my teeth sealed when I was little and I'm a big teeth guy, I don't like kissing someone with a nasty mouth. I have only been snusing for a few weeks now, and haven't noticed any different. I keep brushing, washing, flossing all that. Will snus slowly turn my teeth brown? I mean, smoking will do it to, if you smoke and drink coffee and soda and lots of sugar, of course its going to rot your teeth if you don't brush. I am just wondering if I keep brushing and all like I have, will i notice a big different? So far I haven't. I mean after a few snuses I will, but I brush and it all goes away. I should be good as long as I neep this up, right? Thanks guys.

I thought I would bring this up because my Girlfriend loves my teeth, and I don't have a problem with kissing her now, because I know what it is like to kiss someone who smokes(she doesn't like snus, I'm going to try to get her into it once I get my good stuff) so I won't complain her mouth smells like smoke. I mean I think the mint stuff might might actually make me taste good lol.

Any input is welcome, criticism too

i've only noticed minimal staining and that was right by the gumline under where i keep my pris, but brushing regularly should keep that away (it disappears everytime i brush). just keep doing what you're doing and you should be fine.

Thats pretty much what I thought. Right now I am dedicated to snusing lol and I have only been using Camel as of now. My package will be here sometimes Monday and I will experience the real feal. Minimal staining along the top won't bother me. Even when I smile I don't think you can see where I place the snus at, which is what I like. The one thing that steered me away from American Dip is the fact that I have to spit. I hate it and so does my GF. I have always thought it was gross. I have tried to swallow it, but omg I almost get sick. Thanks for the reply.

My teeth look better since I've been using snus. They aren't gleaming alabaster pillars or anything, but they aren't nearly as stained as they were when I smoked. My gums seem healthier too(excepting a bit of minor recession).

Man, you will be fine. You will prolly notice your teeth actually get whiter. I say this, not because I am convinced snus is a miracle. Just from experience. My teeth have gotten less stained in the last year and a half that I've not smoked. Probably nothing to do with snus besides the fact that it has allowed me to not smoke. I too have pretty "strong" Teeth. Don't have a cavity in my head, and I am by no means holding back on sugar. Just always brush, because it feels right. Anyway I had a good friend in high school, he had terrible teeth. I always wondered if it was part genetics. I mean at 17 years old and half your teeth rotting to some degree. I mean how much was he doin different than me. I don't know. Probably not much but his teeth sucked none the less. where was I here. Sorry for the tangent, anyway good luck and enjoy the snus....

Thats good to hear. I have noticed in the last years my teeth not as white. Now this might help the rest of my teeth stay whiter, and only effect a small area on the side that not many people see in the first place. I tend to keep snus in the same place every time. So I will just make sure to keep up my brushing like I have been. Now that I quit smoking my other teeth should recover. It's amazing how much the smell is starting to bother me already. I have been trying my hardest not to smoke any/much since I started snus. My GF does smoke, not NEARLY as much as I used to, but already I can notice the smell start to bother me, mainly when we are laying in bed.

I have noticed my top teeth getting stained with snus use and brushing doesn't quite make it go away. I have also had some gum rescission as well but it seems to be slowing down. Having said that, I still prefer snus to smokes as I can always pay to whiten my teeth later. I also love the fact that I no longer smell like an ashtray and can use snus anywhere. You are going to find some issues with snus use and it is not completely safe but if you are going to use nicotine, the advantages of snus far outweigh the disadvantages. So just take the money you are saving from not smoking and use part of it on teeth whitening. Speaking of, any recommendations out there on the home whitening kits?

I have snussed for just over a year now. I use standard toothpaste along with occasional Corsodyl for gum health and I have noticed no staining or gum recession whatsoever. When I smoked, the staining was terrible.
If I did have a problem I'd be saying it out loud.

                      Snus is very mouth friendly.

Mix baking soda and peroxide, untill you get a toothpaste-like consistancy. Add some actual toothpaste for flavor. Use 3 times a week, youll see your teeth get SHADES whiter in under a month. As good as any whitening kit, ask any dentist.

And for petes sake, spend the extra few dollars on GOOD toothpaste! Colgate Total is about the best there is. Has whitening agents that actually work, plus Triclosan, a broad-spectrum anti-microbial, which kills bacteria for up to 12 hours, even if you eat. Has a binding agent that makes it stay "stuck" to your teeth, inhibiting bacterial action/sugar metabolism.

And yes, I happen to do Microbiology as part of my job. The stuff works, Ive personally tested it in petri dishes.(though the best I got was no bacterial growth for 8 hours).

Damn, makes me sound like I work for fu*king Colgate........

Thanks Owens. I use Colgate Total but thought it was a standard toothpaste - well it is. I didn't know that info.
