Denna tobaksvara kan skada din halsa och ar beroendeframkall

This tobacco product can damage your health and is addictive

this is what it says on the bottom of snus cans.

so why do the cans ordered from the states say

this product may cause gum disease and tooth loss.

isn't the first one sufficient enough?

The US has it's own warning labels. The US sees any tobacco item on the same level as cigs.

Actually, in my opinion, the US version sounds less threatening! The first warning straight up states that it may damage your health, I see that covering many more aspects than just your mouth! I better keep it to myself that the US warning doesn't scare me or else a new warning may appear, "this product may cause pancreatic cancer." Eesh...

damaging health sounds better than tooth loss and gum disease though.

Difference in U.S. law versus Swedish law, basically. I think the UK warning is similar--at least where snuff is concerned.

Currently, all smokeless tobacco sold in the United States fall under the same category, where it be dip, snus, long leaf chew, or nasal snuff. Hopefully, the FDA will grant snus as a "modified risk" product. The likelihood of that occurring is next to nil though.

Well, the US warnings are better than the South African warnings.

I read somewhere that swedish snus used to be labeled with warnings similar to those currently mandated by the FDA in America, but that the empirical evidence (or lack thereof) inspired the powers that be to change the warning to one less damning. As in, some bureaucrat actually realized that it would be better for people to use snus than to continue smoking. What a thought, huh?

The average American probably can't read it either.

European warnings are the harshest I've seen. Just a BIG white label with black block letters that takes up half of the front of a pack of smokes and simply says "SMOKING KILLS" or "If you STOP smoking you'll live longer."

I used to love the warnings that came on some of the Camel Lights packs in the US - "This product causes problems during pregnancy and low birth weight." I have never been pregnant so I figured I was in the clear...

I thought we already discussed this and that the warning you are referring to only applies to snuff?

Yeah, I know it's on snuff, but what kind of warning does the snus have?

They all say "Tobacco is addictive". I can't find the review I did of Peter Stuyvesant anywhere on the forum but there was a photo in that review if you can find it. Will post a photo of the can and a old General White can when I have time.

And from my previous post referring to the change in warning label

In a positive step, the Department for Health allowed a change of health warning from “Causes Cancer” to “Tobacco is Addictive”. A voluntary warning on the side of the tin says: “This tobacco product can be harmful to your health”.

There was same type of warning on snus about the mouth cancer before but they had to take it off because the studies have not shown that snus causes it. Swedish snus is produced by using "heating process".
