It varies by individual. Some people get a lot, some none. Smoking causes gum recession also, and is generally worse for your teeth. You can see mouth damage, and it can be corrected, albeit painfully. You can't see the damage to your lungs, and that can only be corrected by removal, assuming you catch it early enough.

Thanks Lx.
Well my gum doesn't appear to be as thick as it was though saying that my teeth aren't exposed anymore than they were before, unlike the teeth in this pic...

I think it's a comination of things, time, age, health, and wear of the gums by putting something on them. I don't think it's tobacco per-se that's the problem, just a foreign object on the gums.
If I could go back in time, I would limit the time I kept a snus in, to about a half an hour, because when I started, and for a while after, normally I'd keep snus in for an hour and a half, and I think that caused wear on my gums.

Cigarettes cause gum recession, alcohol causes gum recession, sugar also and a few other things. Snus will over time. however this my my experience, sterk loose snus will cause gum recession way faster than regular strength snus. portion snus will cause slower gum recession than loose.
If using loose try keep the snus above your gum line where you teeth show. This can be difficult when you are new to loose snus. when you have been snusing for a while a pocket in your lip forms and your prilla will stay up there for a long time without it spreading across your gum line.Snus and Dip Video Reviews

I'm surprised you lost your frenulum in 4 months. Do you put snus dead center? I've been chainsnusing mostly loose almost half of which is extra strong for years now. My frenulum and gums haven't changed at all. I'm a bit shocked my mouth is in such good shape. Hell I sleep with snus in all the time as well. Maybe I'm just lucky so far. Hope it works out for you.
