    Snus nicotine content

Just curious if my internet searching is correct. Do snus (portions) tend to have around 0.8mg and strong around 1.2-1.3mg nicotine (minis coming in around 0.4mg)? I looked up my old cigarettes and they were listed as 0.8mg. However, some of the regular cigarettes from popular brands are in the 1.6mg range (cigarettes seem to vary quite a bit more than snus).

If I read this right a pack a day smoker would need to use an entire snus can (regular or strong depending on their normal cigarettes) or more per day to get the same amount of nicotine. Now maybe some here would disagree, but I just don't think there is enough time in a day to realistically go through a can of snus a day. Does this mean that I'm actually taking in about a 1/3 of the nicotine I used to (1 can lasts 3 days for me)?

This seems contradictory to me because most places (as well as stuff I've read on this forum) seem to suggest that there's more nicotine in snus.

Also, another question: with a portion, and I guess loose, do you actually get all of the 0.4/0.8/1.2mg of nicotine? The delivery of nicotine on snus seems a little more erratic than it would with a cigarette. It seems like it would depend on how long you leave it in, how much you move it around, etc... This would further lower the relative amount of nicotine in snus as well.

As you can see I'm confused. Now I suppose it doesn't really matter, as long as I'm not nic'in I don't think it really matters how many snus I use . But the number-crunching scientist in me is curious . Plus, I feel like with N&J and Skruf Stark that my blood pressure rises and sometimes I get a little sweaty - so I doubt that would be the case if it's only slightly more nicotine than 1 cigarette.

I think perhaps multiply all those numbers by 10 - 4mg for minis, 7-9mg for normal, 11-13mg for strong portions. You don't absorb all of that nicotine, though, of course. I think I read a study about it somewhere, but for the life of me I can't remember when or where. The numbers on cigarettes are much different, however - they indicate the amount absorbed, or at least measured in the smoke via the use of a smoking machine that draws on a lit cigarette and measures the content of the smoke. This is why a lot of manufacturers poke holes in the paper around the filters - when a person draws on a cigarette their lips will usually extend far enough to cover those holes and enrich the nicotine content (and tar!) of the smoke, while the smoking machine only fixes onto a short bit on the end and will dilute what it measures by drawing in more air. This, mainly, to circumvent regulations on the maximum amount of tar and nicotine cigarettes are allowed to deliver.

Of course, there's always the option to... smoke more

      Nice pic

I remember reading on one of Swedish Match's website that for eg a standard portion of Snus this would contain 8mg nictoine but you would only absorb 10-20% of the nictoine and so I think you would absorb roughly the same amount of nicotine from a standard portion of Snus as you would from a standard cigarette.

Thanks for the info. FYI I stumbled across this site this morning:
        https://www.gothiatek.com/templates/...bazAnchor_1719

It appears to have all the details, the nicotine total is 10X what I was thinking (like Zero mentioned), and you only absorb 10 - 20% of the total (what mwood72 mentioned)

... within the first half hour of use (like previously mentioned on the Gothiatek site. I don't know why they've changed the text, maybe not to scare people, who think that nicotine is dangerous. After all, Gothiatek is a promotional site by Swedish Match).

I guess, the 50% estimation is more appropriate if you use a prilla or portion for a longer time.

BTW, most webshops state the nicotine content, so you don't have to puzzle.

          Cheers!

I just received an email from the Gotlandsnus guys stating that it has 1.2 mg of nicotine per gram of snus.

              Cheers!

Nope, it was 1POINT2 mg in his email.
But I suppose he meant the amount absorbed, not contained in it.
If it was the other way round, I'd be damn shaky right now, I suppose.
