My doctor (a young-'un) and I have an understanding (but she does call me her curmudgeon). I'll tell her when something doesn't feel right and then she can run her tests; this doesn't happen very often. There's a drug she wants me to take for whatever reason ... convince me why I should take it and let's discuss the side effects and contraindications.

We do no rounds of tests just to see what we can find. Hell, you look long enough, doc, and we both know you'll find something. She's okay with that nowadays but it did take a couple years to achieve control over my medical care, right or wrong. I've got a good health plan, but that's no reason to poison me just because you can.

We have quality time every 6 months; the last time was a month ago. And I had a portion lipped the whole time; BP okay!

My doctor won't give me anything. Not that I've tried, but she wouldn't give me a pill for the sake of it...even if I asked. Now, I am only 36 so there isn't really anything wrong with me yet. I just think that she's a very good person. She's from India. I've always seeked out an Indian doctor for this reason. I think they have a lot of integrity in this business.

Well, my doctor is All-American and definitely of a-pill-is-the-best-medicine for just about everything school.

We 'found' each other when I was hospitalized for a week about 6 years ago; I had not had a regular doctor for close to 25 years and wasn't looking forward to changing that. My first office visit was one of full disclosure. I told her the 10 meds prescribed upon discharge wasn't going to cut it and if I stayed with her it would be to wean off most of the meds. This has worked out fine and we discuss my health every 6 months.

I've got a feeling she tolerates me as an experiment of sorts. She's 'fessed-up that most of her patients (she's a GP) usually expect a prescription without fuss whereas I wont won't even accept one without good cause. Therefore, I'm a curmudgeon -- and proud of it!

I had an indian doctor who always wanted to prescribe every kind of medicine. I have asthma. He diagnosed me and gave me steroids, a quick action inhaler, and claritin. I only took the steroids and felt better on that alone. I told him I didn't take the other stuff and he was upset I didn't follow his advice. I just didn't see the point if just one thing will work. But that's just how some doctors are.

I had a friend in high school who would intentionally get drunk before he went to the doctors. He was overweight said he hated doctors(who probably told him the same thing every appointment). He always checked out fine.(though booze is more of a long-term health thing)
