    New guy from Maryland

I'm fairly new to snus (been using daily for about 6 months). I used to smoke, then I tried dip, and finally I arrived at General snus.

My snus experience is not incredibly broad as the local shop only carried General, but recently I put in my first order through Northerner. My order came in 3 days (as expected, since they are in PA) and everything was correct. On top of my usual General portion I decided to broaden my horizons with Oden's Classic and Kanel, Goteborgs Rape White, General Sterk White, Ettan portion, and Probe portion.

The first one I tried was the Probe. The idea of a Kentucky bourbon flavored snus really intrigued me. I can see how the taste may not suit everyone, but I actually quite like it. I have yet to try the others, so the only thing I'm comparing to are the General flavors that I have tried (white, original, wintergreen, and mint). But I would love to hear some other flavors or brands that you guys would recommend for my next order.

Welcome, Enzo. You made some good selections for your first order. I like Probe, too, but I don't think it really tastes much like bourbon (and I'm from Kentucky, and enjoy a quality bourbon).

Once you have sampled your first order, you'll have a better idea of what to try next. Personally I would recommend General's Lab Series 01 and 02 if you like natural tobacco flavor. Röda Lacket is a good choice if you like sweeter flavors. You may also want to try some of V2's Thunder line, especially if you're looking for a strong snus. I like Thunder Berry Blend a lot. And since you're accustomed to dip, you'll probably want to order a can or two of lös (loose) snus. Röda Lacket and Ettan are probably two of the best brands of lös for newbies.

But most of all, enjoy exploring all the wonderful varieties of snus!

When it came to dip, I liked to alternate flavors a good bit. Usually it was Copenhagen or Skoal straight, but I also used Skoal peach and apple on a regular basis just to keep things different. But I was never one for mint or wintergreen, if I want that I'll chew a piece of gum.

As far as loose, I actually have some General loose in the freezer. I tried it once but my pris was terrible and it ended in a catastrophic mudslide, so I have stuck to portions ever since. I've been thinking about trying it again after reading up and maybe watching a video or two on how to do it properly.

Try the Gotland snuses. If you get into lös, V2 makes some good lös snus. Welcome to SnusOn!

Nice to see another Marylander on here, sometimes it feels like I'm the only person in this state who knows snus exists!

I actually figured out why I had a mudslide the first time I used loose: I had it too far back in my lip. I rolled a halfway decent one just now and it's sitting closer to the center of my lip, no mud (being a former dipper definitely helps with tongue control). I'm still going to stick to the portions at work for the ease and for the general discreet factor, but I could definitely see loose becoming a nice relaxing home snus. I might have to add another can of loose to my next order.

Ettan is a great lös. Most people like it better than the portions. Gotland lös is equal to, but different from their portions. I like both for different reasons. I haven't had V2 portions in a long time, but historically I haven't liked them at all. People seem to be digging them now, so maybe they've gotten better. I can't be bothered to try, as I don't like my most favorite portions as well as lös. I don't use them enough to bother trying new ones.

              Edit:
We've had a few Marylanders come and go, but I think I'm the only one currently posting regularly. Snus is still a very tiny niche. I'd really be surprised if I saw the general public using it.

I've been educating many of my smoker and dipper friends and co-workers about snus, the one that really gets them (especially here in MD) is the money I save by using snus instead of cigarettes or even dip for that matter. The problem is that I normally have General Original on my person and I find that the majority of people who have tried it have all said that the nic hit was too strong and they did not care for the taste. Maybe I should hand out mint minis for people to try instead. I think a lot of people here would like it, just that the American tobacco companies inspire such brand and product loyalty that people are 100% reluctant to even try anything else.

                    Enzo,

The only advice I can give you is don't judge any one snus on 1st impressions. I liked Probe when I 1st tried it, by the end of the can I regretted buying it. I've had other snus I wasn't impressed with that grew on me the longer I used them.

Enzo, Welcome to SnusOn... You already received some great advice

I would say for your next order for portions I would recommend: For stronger snus .... General Extra Sterk, General Onyx ,Nick And Johnny Strong, or Thunder Berry Blend... For Loose with my limited experience and the ones I like so far ... Ettan Los, General Extra Stark Los, Phantom Blue Los, Skruf Stark Los or Skruf Extra Stark Los..

Most Importantly order what sounds good to you and have fun trying new ones and enjoy.....

                        Some good choices are:
                        • Catch Pure Mint 7mg
                        • General Dry Mini Mint 4mg
                        • General Mint White 8mg
                        • Northerner Boost Honey & Peppermint 6mg
                          (really discreet/non-intrusive)

And they sure beat US Camel & Marlboro!!

Flavors definetely change.. Like others have said if you don't like a certain
brand put it in the freezer and revisit it in a month or two.. Flavors have changed alot for me since I quit smoking. Mostly with food.. It's amazing..
