Hey all, so as you can tell by my name I recently quit dipping to use snus instead. The obvious reason is plain and simple: Swedish snus is safer than my beloved American dip. So here is my question, I bought General original portions a few weeks ago, and I LOVE the taste, but it really does nothing for me. I used to dip Grizzley WG which I understand has a very high nic content. So what I did was order Skurf Extra strong and General es, both los, and I have to say this gets the job done! However my worry is that if I only snus ES that those are not as "safe" as other forms of snus. Any thoughts/tips would be much appreciated. Right now I have a General es portion upon waking, then a general regular on my way to work, another regular on lunch and a HUGE Skurf es before bed.

Welcome to SnusOn! I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would think that even the ES snus is probably a lot safer than dip. Also you are already mixing in some regular strength snus so it's all good IMO. Congrats on quitting dip!

Welcome and congrats on making the switch.
TSNA levels are.low.across.the.board so a a higher nic product will have little effect. There has been associations that higher ph and nicotine levels contribute to a greater chance of leukaplakis presenting itself but I do not have the link.
The main thing is that you are away from the extra chemical stew that is in American dip. As you progress in your snussing career, you may find it easy to back down to a lower level nic.
Again, welcome.

Thanks for the tips guys. As of now I only have one pris at night. I am well aware of the havok loose tobacco can have on your gums. The rest of the day I try to stick to my regular portions even if they don't exactly hit the spot like the es. As for luekoplakia I def want to avoid that. I never got it from dipping all those years is that something snussers get often?

thanks for all the tips and advice guys. Its been 20 days since my last dip! I have 10 cans of skirf es and general es left 5 of (each) so when that's gone I think ill try to scale back my strength. Just glad I can keep my lower jaw! Tried quitting for years and this is the longest I've ever made it.

Welcome to the forum EXD.
I too am an x-dipper...........................dipped some 25 years and then found snus......................never looked back.
Check out the dipper's guide to snus.....................a lot of folks have contributed a lot of good info that you may find helpful.
Also about the extra starks.................what others have said is spot on.......................all Swedish snus must meet the same purity standards regardless of the nic level..........................however the extra starks burn a bit more due to the higher nic.................portions rub a bit more..................Also keep in mind that a lot of what you may be associating with Grizzly high nic might not be all due to the nic but all the other stuff in American tobacco......................when I quit it took about 2 months for my LIP (literally my lip) to stop craving that something else in dip.....................mind you I was snusing as much and putting it in the same place.
Anyway check out the guide, keep us posted, and glad to have you on board
Even though Snuffy already provided the link above, I will give it again for convenience sake

Thanks for the link snusdog. I actually stumbled on it a while back while researching snus. It has been very helpful! I really have to say I am surprised a how much I like snus. I didn't think I would like it, but I do. As for my lip "craving" the dip I feel you there. I'm really just trying to ignore it right now. I never had ANY ill effects from dipping, but I don't want to risk it. From all of the research I've seen I can't see A SINGLE REASON that anyone would not switch from smoking/dipping to snus. I've read that it is estimated to be as safe as coffee. Just can't understand why American Smokeless won't make the changes that the Swedes obviously found to make tobacco use safer. Must admit watching the baseball playoffs with a pinch in the top lip and the bottom one empty is a bit odd...

Ettan is pretty strong, but still mellow. It's my present favorite. It's a slow, steady release of nicotine that seems just right to me somehow. Tried Lucky Strike and Skruf extra stark (or is that sterk?), but keep coming back to Ettan. Thunder is another great choice for a strong nic hit, and I miss it a lot, but I'm having a heck of a time finding it these days, being in a banned state...

May I ask ?
Why are you quitting dip anyway?
Just wondering, because I'm looking forward to start dipping, been a snuser for a few months now..
Well I'll be dipping and snusing at the same time ...
If you want a real kick from snus you'll have to use LOS or extra sterk portions such as General Extra Sterk and Skruf Xtra Sterk Portion.
