new guy the new england area (US)

hello everyone. I am fairly new to the forums here and thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself and give some background info. I have been an avid smoker of cigarettes since I was 16 years old, however, I never really enjoyed it as others do (I am 19 years old now). My friends all smoke so it was just a phase for me, but the nicotine stuck with me as well has the habit of doing it everyday. I tried many times to quit, but miserably failed. I heard of snus and thought maybe this would be the best way get rid of the nasty smoking habit and replace it with a safer one to get my nicotine fix.

I initially purchased some marlboro snus, TERRIBLE mistake. I didn't even know what real swedish snus was like then but I would take smoking over marlboro snus. Halfway into the marlboro snus, I purchased Camel snus hoping it would be better, one more time, a terrible mistake. I researched a bit online and found my way towards REAL snus. I visited my local tobacco store and they had some General Snus there so I bought a can of General Regular portions and a can of General White portions. Yum. I have been using this stuff for about 2 weeks and I have stopped smoking completely since I bought the General Snus. After I finish these cans, I will go on to experiment with other snus brands and flavors.

I feel much less jittery as I don't feel nicotine withdrawals and have very constant and controlled levels of nicotine in my system with snus. I am not that guy outside desperately looking for my lighter in freezing temperatures to light up anymore. My lungs are already starting to thank me for it. Although I did not smoke for a long time, it was one habit of mine that I really hated (the smell, ashes in my car, headaches, trouble breathing at the gym, etc.). Smoking was simply not for me.

Anyways, long story short, I'm real happy I have been introduced to the snus world and will never look back to smoking again. I'm also glad I found this forum to be able to talk about snus with other users. Cheers everyone!

Welcome aboard! This is a great place to learn lots of things from the collective experience. People are nice here...you'll like that.

My advise is to try as many different kinds of snus as you can...your taste will most likely change over time but you'll eventually settle on your favorite.

RJR and Altria have done an absolute public service by introducing product that is so vile and ineffective that many thousands have been driven into the comforting arms of the real Swedish deal. Camel and Marlboro have mounted a multi-million dollar campaign to raise awareness and appreciation of snus. It's not a shame that it has not been for their own products.

Completely agree Darwin. Because of such low nicotine levels, I not only felt like I had to stuff two in at the same time, but i also still got insane cravings for cigarettes because the nicotine was simply not enough. I guess their marketing is successful, however, their snus products in themselves are NOT. Luckily, I did not say "hell with snus, this stuff doesn't work" like many of my friends did and went back to smoking. I'm glad I have an open mind and went out to research about the real swedish stuff!

WickedKitchen: Thank you for the welcome! I am also from MA (boston area) myself. By reading a few threads on this forum, I can tell you guys are very friendly here and open to talk. I'm glad it is full of welcoming members such as yourself!

Welcome man! Glad you got off the cancer sticks. Lol

As some have said. Save your lungs, rock your gums.

I know that people will still say "well tobacco is tobacco, and there is no safe form of it" but I am sure snus is a HELL lot safer than cancer sticks. no more smelling like smoke, my car smells much better every morning, my lungs can breathe, there is just so many positives of snusing compared to smoking. well anyways, thanks for the welcome everyone, i'm feeling cozy here on the forums already

btw, how long did it take for you guys to get used to swallowing the snus juices? After two weeks, I'm already getting used to it compared to when I first started, but sometimes I get a really strong flavor out of the snus after about 45 minutes that hurts a bit to swallow.

Swallowing did bother me occasionally in the beginning but it got better the longer I used it. Drinking a fluid of your choice will help a lot until you adjust.
