    Tobacco Taxes

I know that if I order snus and they don't charge me taxes in the order, I will need to pay the taxes on it. How is this done, though? Is there some extra form or something when you file or how does it work? I always have really simple taxes and haven't had to do anything like that before. Sorry if this is a no brainer question. I doubt that anybody here (shop-owners aside) ever paid tobacco taxes other than the taxes collected by the webshops or by occasional fees from the customs office. In other words, I guess everybody is happy when a package slips through the tax-collection machinery and nobody would think about to report anything to the authorities. I don't think that there's a real risk. If customs didn't bother to inspect your package, who could ever know what you purchased?

To be on the safe side you could contact your local customs office or the finance office and ask them what's best to do.

But I leave it to our American members to come up with ideas or field reports. I'm certainly no expert for overseas tobacco tax and law issues - and here in Europe we always paid snus-taxes collected by the webshops. BTW, I'm a law-abiding citizen myself, but I don't think that it's a crime to enjoy occasional tax free foreign purchases on a single consumer scale.

      Cheers!

I still haven't received one of these mystery bills in nine or ten months of ordering, pre and post PACT act... A friend of mine was into it before I was. About a year before I got into snus, he was telling me how he got a bill from customs to pay a tariff of like $2.00 on one of his orders. (of course, pre-PACT.) I mean I'll let you know if I do, but I'm not about to raise my hand and volunteer more money to the government.

After all, they spend every minute with their hands in our pockets; I'm not about to remind them that they (GOD FORBID) forgot to steal again.

Just call the Indiana Department of Revenue, and they will help you through the process. Your state requires that you do this every month, most do...but there are a few states out there that let you do it quarterly. Hope that helps
