    Headaches..

    Guys,

I have been noticing that maybe about 1 hour, maybe 2-3 hours, after a portion I get a couple very quick headaches. They are however quite painful, but only last a second or so. Is this a withdrawal symptom, or possible to much nicotine or something? I'm on the General Original Portion, I think it is only 8mg. But I have been smoking for so long, I have a hard time believing its a nic headache.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

I am thinking it could go both ways. You might be getting your headaches from too little or too much nicotine. I would try a different brand or switch to a 4 mg mini just to see if it helps. It also could be your body reacting to not having the smokes and your headaches may eventually go away. Hang in there and keep us updated.

Ok so if I go to the 4mg, will I notice a change in flavor? That would suck.

No, the flavor will be the same just with less nicotine. If you have a hard time getting mini's where you live you can also try Los but use a smaller pris. My favorite mini is Granit but General OP Mini's are OK as well. Another good bet will be to try Northerner. They come in 3mg and 6mg portions. The energy and licorice flavors kind of suck IMO but the citrus menthol is pretty good.

          Welcome to snuson!

I see from your other post on the other thread you stated that you were a 14 yr smoker and just started with 8mg portions of General OP 4 days ago and have not had a cig in 4 days either, So If I Read your post above correct you are going 1 to 3 hours between portions... Is that correct? If so it is withdrawal symptoms from not enough nicotine and you need to increase your nicotine intake by either taking more portions and not going so long between them or getting some sterks and extra sterks to mix inbetween....

            When I quit smoking with snus, I kept a portion in my mouth at all times. Using an 8mg portion, I'd switch out for a new portion every hour. If you have access to Ekstra Sterk, or stark portions that would help I think. My routine to quit was;

Strong portion first thing in the morning, switch out an hour later to a regular portion, and switch it out every hour. After lunch or meals I would use a strong or extra strong portion. Whenever I had a craving for a cig...I'd pop in a strong or extra strong portion. You'll have to find the combination that's best for you, this is your journey. We can help get you started and answer questions for sure....but you'll figure it out. We did

Keep us posted on your progress so we can offer some suggestions, cigarettes are a bitch to quit...but snus makes it pretty easy. Good luck and welcome to the site

              It's probably nicotine overdose ...

I'm not sure though... I do have headaches very often due to my sinusitis... and sometimes I used to get nasty ones from overdoing snus or snuff...

I'd guess it's likely a withdrawal symptom from one of the other thousand chemicals in cigarettes and you'll be fine if that's the case and they only last a couple of minutes.

Sounds kinda like cluster headaches though allbeit less intense. From WebMD:

Cluster headaches are also common in people who smoke and drink alcohol frequently. During a cluster period, the sufferer is more sensitive to the action of alcohol and nicotine, and minimal amounts of alcohol can trigger the headaches. During headache-free periods the person can consume alcohol without provoking a headache.

If this is the case then nicotine is certainly not your friend...or at least not a nice one.

I do get headaches from alcohol as well, even though I drink very rarely....

Not sure why, especially from red wine.

Some say the sulfites in the red wine especially cause this.

And I serve lets say 2 - 3 glasses while eating and still get the headache, lol

I guess staying away from alcohol should solve the issue :|

Might be impurities causing headaches with alcohol. The darker the liquor, the greater chance of having problems. Check out this page...

Good advice has been given. I agree that it could be either too much nicotine or not enough or just from not smoking. I would bet on either not enough nic or just from quitting the cigs. It could take your body a while (months) to adjust. Just hang in there and you'll figure out what works best in time.

                            Which Alcohol is worse?
Brandy is worst for hangovers, then in descending order are: red wine, rum, whisky, white wine, gin and vodka. The British Medical Journal did tests that showed drinking bourbon whiskey is twice as likely to cause a hangover than the same amount of vodka.
This says it all.... I've stopped drinking ever since I've had a bottle of whiskey in one night.... I was hangover for about a week ....

Fact or Fiction: "Quit smoking." Nicotine changes the amount of pain-signaling chemicals in the nervous sytem, like endorphins, serotonin, norephinephrine, and dopamine. The ability of nicotine to alter these chemicals explains why people describe feelings of decreased anxiety or stress with the use of nicotine products. Nicotine use also is associated with increased pain levels in people who suffer from chronic pain.

Headache activity is also incrased in smokers, with headache activity directly linked to the amount of nicotine consumed--the greater the nicotine exposure, the greater headache frequency and severity become. Although case reports describe improvement in migraine and tension-type headache when nicotine use is stopped, well-designed studies are not available. Stopping nicotine has been shown to be helpful in reducing cluster headache. In my own practice headaches have been dramatically reduced in a few patients who quit smoking. In most, improvement is moderate. Smoking cessation is important for one's overall health, with an added benefit of possibly reducing headache activity.

It is usually too much nicotine causing the headache and not too little. Although I could see it working both ways. I am not so sure about using Sterks. It may feel better to use sterks temporarily but you are literally chasing a dragon. I really would try and lower the dose to just enough nicotine to kill your cravings and leave it at that.
