Hello. New Guy here. Have some (odd) questions

Ok, so like most I am a smoker. I bought some snus. General, etc. and Over the last month I have Snus, smoke, snus, smoke, about two weeks ago I came down with bell's palsy. I started smoking again. Then snus, then smoke. I went about a week without a cigarette a few weeks ago (they are all blurring together by now) but I haven't found the "perfect" brand I suppose.

I'll start off on a couple reviews:

The first of my order I opened was Goteborgs Rape Los. It... SMELLS weird! I know all snus kind of smells weird, but even the subtle taste in my nostrils while using it, I don't think I really liked it. It was... weird.

I ordered Gotland Grey portions (amazing!) but after a few days the taste changed and I couldn't use em anymore. Weird..

Roda Lacket White portions sort of tasted like Goteborgs. Strange flavor..

General Los wasn't too bad, but again, the strange smell similar to Goteborgs.

Ettan Los!!! Finally. Something I can stand to use regularly. But I STILL can't shake the desire for a cigarette. Besides, the Ettan doesn't really taste like anything. Ocassionally I will have a slight salty taste, but for the most part it's pretty bland.

I do love bergamot (big earl grey drinker), but I can't hack the Goteborgs or Roda taste. I have heard that Roda Los tastes different, so I may try it. I don't know.

So, I am thinking maybe I prefer the original tobacco flavor opposed to "flavored" snus?

I have some Goteborgs #2 portions I haven't opened. And some 01 portions, and Offroad original Los. So those are next to try. And I'm getting ready for another order. I am thinking of trying the Skurf Stark, but Northerner doesn't have it so I guess I'll try getsnus.

Is there anything else I should try with all of this in mind?

I am hoping to just find that perfect flavor and crave it like I do cigs..

Still smoking and snusing (not at the same time), but I'm weaning myself off slowly but surely.

edit: ok you all may think I am crazy but I just opened the (now old and dry) can of Goteborgs and it smells kind of... good? Maybe because I have some ettan in right now? I don't know.. I'm all over the map. Help?

    Wlecome to the forum jmdjax!

I think you will likely find the same thing most of us did when we first started snus, that you are not attracted to the sweet "american" types of flavor like you are with dip often times. Snus seems to be more of an old tobacco kind of taste and that is where it works best, most of the heavily flavored snuses are terrible in my opinion.

Gotborgs and ettan are a good start, both are nice rich tobacco flavors and not heavily sweetened or flavored. If you want to try a *good* flavored snus, try Thunder Frosted. Warning, thunder frosted is an extra sterk, meaning it has a LOT of nicotene. If you want the regular nicotene snus than looks like you are already off to a good start with the brands you have chosen.

The rule of thumb here is that you should just try a lot of variety. Most of us found that A) Our tastes for snus were different than our tasted for dip or other tobacco, and B) that your taste will change over time and you will find yourself liking different types of snus. So just try everything out and even if you don't like something, come back and try it again later because you may like it the second time around.

Try Skruf or monte cristo and maybe taboca. They're a bit different than pure tobacco like Ettan etc.

Welcome jmdjax. Just keep trying different things, your experience is pretty much that of anyone first trying snus. It is weird, compared to what you are used to. If you want to try some more straight-up tobacco flavors, try Grov. It's much bolder in flavor than Ettan, which I also find to be pretty bland. That is it's appeal though as people get more accustomed to the nuances of snus -- Ettan is very subtle. Skruf is an excellent snus, so do get your hands on some if you can. Anyway, my only suggestion is to keep trying a lot of different kinds, and don't order a shitload of anything until you are sure it won't turn on you for at least a little while. I don't think I ordered a roll until my 3rd year, but those were the good ol' days when it was cheap to order single cans. Try the exchange for that now that it's so expensive. Anyway welcome to snus and to the forum.

          Welcome to the forum.

but Northerner doesn't have it so I guess I'll try getsnus.
Getsnus is owned by Northerner, as is swedish-snus.com, snus.com and many other sites. They are clones.

You have the option of Buysnus.com, Snuscentral.com, and swedishsnus.com

Welcome to SnusOn. If you want the great flavor of Thunder Frosted but not the intense nic hit, try Offroad Frosted.

Skruf is very similar to General, So, if ordering from Sweden isnt up your alley you can stick with the General. I suggest trying a can of regular portions as well as a can of the whites, along with the los..

I agree with Roo about the Grov. Give Grovsnus a shot. regular portions, white prtions and los..

If your not likeing a snus, DO NOT THROW IT OUT! put it in the freezer and try it again some day.

General Sterk, Onyx, and General Eckstra Sterk are very good for curbing cigg cravings as well as Nick & Johnny Strong and N&J Strong White portions.

Infact the flavours of Nick and Johnny may suit your tastes because its very subtle.

I also recommend checking the snus auctions on this site. I try to put up auctions with a variety of snus included. Good luck finding your favorite. When you do it will probably soon be discontinued tho........

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I suggest sticking with the classics, they are classic for a reason, and the supply is always fresh, and you can bet on them never being discontinued.

All good info above. I second, third and fourth the Grov option. Best snus made, IMO. Period.

Take note that los and portions taste different so don't write off a flavor w/o trying the los first or vice versus. Gotlands was like that for me. I never could get into the portions but man the los is some of the best. Too bad I'm in the minority with that one...the selection just got thinner. What else should you try? The rest of them. If you put them in a ZipLoc in the freezer they'll last forever. Pay little attention to the dates if this is the case. The degradation is minimal.

A good idea would be to read the Personal Tastes Compared thread. You'll notice some trends in peoples' preferences and that's often a good sign.

                      Welcome aboard...and SnusOn.

                        Welcome

I'm fairly new here myself so I can tell you that you will find lots of helpful people here. As for me I bounced back and forth between snus and cigarettes for several months. eventually snus won out. It does take some getting used to. I like to start my morning with a wintergreen and maybe one in the afternoon. The rest of the day my preference is granit, at least until I run out, then I have to find something else as it's too expensive to ship from sweden. Also so most of the time I use mini pouches except for first thing in the morning. I used to think about cigarettes all the time but as longg as I had my snus in I had no physical desire to smoke, just my brain playing tricks on me. Give it time, try some different brands and it will work!

I love bergamot as well. Most of the ones I like were discontinued or only available from Sweden.

Try Jakobsson's classic portion, Thunder original (it is an extra strong snus. I really like this in los but the mini is good and the same nicotine content of a regular portion.) I have yet to try Jakobsson's classic strong but I am looking forward to it. That is a sterk and I like the wintergreen flavor they make.

Just try a bunch of stuff and try out some los. When I first tried snus to quit smoking I wound up dipping for a while because I hated portions. Got some los and it is snus for me since. Now I like some portions but prefer los.

If you are likeing the snus, but still crave a quick nic fix now and again, try nasal snuff. Use it inbetween snus, whenever you want a cigarette, take a snuff instead, you may find you like it better than smoking.
