    Snus problem?

Hey guys. I ordered my first roll of snus a couple weeks ago (10 cans general portion). For the first week or so, the snus was very moist, very strong, it burnt my lip every time I used it (love it). I have been storing it in the fridge in a ziploc bag. I love snus and have quit smoking because of it and will continue to use it for god knows how long.

I always put it back in the fridge when I go to bed at night.

Now I notice that the can I opened yesterday has dried out? Like most of the snus inside the bag is still relatively moist, but the outside of the bag has dried and it gives a weird texture. I've also noticed the strength and taste of the snus has dissipated, which is really weird considering it's been less than a week in the fridge. It's almost like it feels rough in my mouth, not smooth like it used to.

FWIW the expiry is June 14/2011, so not for a long time.

So I opened a new can just to see and although the first couple portions were fine that can is now drying out too. I do live in a fairly dry climate but its winter now. Could it be the fridge that did this? The first can I used stayed fresh right til the end (took about 3 days to finish it). The second can started to go dry near the end. Is there any way to get it back to the way it was before, with that zip, or should I just leave it?

Is it that my mouth has gotten used to snusing and now I don't notice the burn anymore? Seems a little weird. I mean I was getting super buzzed off this stuff (OMG I LOVE IT!) I couldn't even really handle it at first it was too much nicotine but now with the bags drying out a bit Ive noticed a sharp decline in buzzability. Even the smell, when I first smelled it and for a few days after it was like overwhelmingly strong. Now it even smells weaker.

Do you recommend me spraying it and leaving it for 48 hours? What's the absolute best way to store snus so that it has the original flavor and taste and doesn't dry out like at all?

    Please help guys, thanks.

are you storing it inside or outside of a bag? I would recommend that you keep the snus in a ziplock bag. also your mouth will get used to it and the burn and nicotine rush will fade. You'll still get the wonderful nicotine goodness you need from it...but the intense rush will mellow out. What was the smell like? Snus that is super fresh will strong very strongly...almost like ammonia...but will smell less intense with time...which in my opinion is a good thing. Sounds like you are just getting used to it to me. Keep it sealed in bags and all will be well. Keep it in the freezer and let it thaw before use. When frozen, snus will last for years. Welcome to the site by the way...this is a wonderful place

I used to throw my cans in the fridge when I went to sleep...yes in my opinion it does effect the snus taking in and out constantly of the fridge. I suggest watching chadizzy1's video on Youtube regarding storage. What I do is I have what I am going to be using out and leave whats up next in the fridge. Everything else stays in the freezer.

        Hey, thanks for the video.

Yes I was storing it in a ziploc bag. I have switched to a sealed container. Also I'm trying an experiment with half a can I just put a small slice of apple inside we'll see what happens in a couple days.

I think I might need to get a can of extra sterk for when I need the rush!

        Happy snusing!

No problem, I presonally use Ziplock's Vacuum Seal bags...they are cheap, re-useable and for what its worth keeps the snus fresh as can be. Now if you got a lil extra money I would suggest a true vacuum sealer machine. I used Ziplock's stuff being that I can't really afford a machine at the moment. Also with the ziplock bags you can open the bag and re-seal it.

              hey, welcome to SnusOn!

You can cut one or two small pieces of apple and place them inside the can.

I can't tell exactly what happened with your snus, I believe you either left the can open for too long, or maybe that batch was a little dryer .....

Try the apple method, it works nicely.

It is! Just think, I could of spent hundreds if not thousands on a Swedish made penis pump when for less than $10 I got one and bags to collect "run off"

The ol apple trick works great for re-hydrating certain 'stuff' but I never liked it with snus. Tried it one time and I did not care for the apple flavor mixing into the snus. When I (rarely) need to re-hydrate snus I take a small misting bottle, the kind you buy at walmart for a dollar thats used for hair spray and stuff, fill it with distilled water then spread the portions out in the can and give them a few good spritzes, pop it in the fridge overnight to let it all absorb.

You can also make a ghetto humidor type thing by opening the used portion container on the top of the can, and drilling/poking some small holes in the bottom of it down to the inside of the can, then take a paper towel moistened with distilled water, bunch it up and place it in the catch lid with the holes drilled and replace the top. The water will slowly absorb into the snus through the holes previously drilled. This takes about 3 days to complete, but you can still use the snus while it is hydrating.

You can use regular water, but I use distilled to make sure everything stays fresh and uncontaminated.

distilled water works fine too..... I use it as well with loose snus....

I like the flavor the apple adds to the whole mixture, with portion snus... :^)
