nicotine content in snus vs cigs?

Hello everyone. First time poster thinking of giving snus a try after I have given up on e-cigs ($400 later). I went to generalsnus-com to use the locator to find out if there are any retailers near me. Yaaay, there's one 38 miles away! I'm going to be going to this tobacco shop this week, but before I do; is there a graft around here or a general rule of thumb as to the nicotine content you would need to supplement your cigarette needs? I see there are brands called Stark which have higher nicotine; is this what I need? I suppose I should really be asking is, What type of General snus (probably the only brand at said retailer) OR amount of nicotine per portion to help with a Pack-a-day Marlboro Red 72 habit? (<--- note 72..less baccy) thanks for any insight I may receive from all you snus heads. Hope this works. My GF hates that I dropped all that money on e ciggies.

They usually only sell regular strength snus. In general I'd say it's close to 1 snus portion equals 1.5-2 marlboro 72's but it depends on individual smoking behavior how often you take puff etc. I'd say you'll want about 8-12 portions. I'd say get general mint, general white, and if you want original, mini mint, wintergreen, and loose.

Thanks for the reply! I see the concensus is usually "try as many as you can". Will do! I'm just trying to figure out the numbers. I see that cigs generally have 1mg nicotine per cig (probably less in 72) and I smoke about 2 of those an hour = 4 mg nicotine in a 2 hour period. But if I have a snus at 9 mg/ portion over the course of two hours I will have doubled my nicotine intake. That's why I'm wondering why some people recommend the stark ones that have 11+ mg? I just hope I can find a good starting level that won't leave me dissapointed yet satisfying my cravings simultaneously. Thanks again for the help! This is one confusing adventure I have decided to partake lol.

I am no expert, still new at this myself. I am not so sure you should do that math rather than "Just do what works for you". I have found that different SNUS hits me differnt ways. For example. Thunder ES Portion has ~16mg of nicotine. General Onyx has ~11mg of nicotine. I am not sure why this is, maybe a PH thing or maybe the material that the portion is made from, but I get a greater buzz and satisfaction from the Onyx, even though it has less nicotine per portion. I would just give it a try and see if you get any satisfaction at all first.

        good luck

Weird. I suppose ill see how many kinds this baccy shop has and buy em all. I wonder if different processing techniques affect MOAI content, thus changing the overall experience? Hmmmm maybe I will be trying a bunch. Thanks again!

Be advised that a local shop in my area is listed on the general snus site but they no longer carry the product.

Most shops will have general mini mint portions as well, they have 4mgs of nic in each one.

Also, don't try to use to many portions at first until you know how much you can handle, nicotine poisoning is a rather unpleasant experience.

I didn't switch from cigs so I don't know, but from what I've heard you only need to use sterks when your biggest cig cravings happen, like in the morning and after dinner.

Check out http://www.snusdistribution.com as well. Those locations sell multiple brands of snus locally.

I read somewhere a long time ago, that an 8mg snus was the oral equivalent of a 1.2mg smoke. In other words you can only get so much nicotine by absorption. This would be the reason for the use of an extra sterk after meals or when craving is high. The nicotine also enters your body at a slower pace, thus it takes longer to feel you buzz.

I smoked about a pack and a half of really strong smokes every day. When I started snusing instead, I was snusing about 3/4 can of 8mg portions a day. Now I use an 11mg portion (Nick and Johnny strong white) and I use 6 to 8 portions a day. So the oral equivalent of about a half pack of smokes a day.

I cant find the info on this anywhere on the web, and I may be off a little, but I know I read about that somewhere when I started snusing.

Ahh I did find something here... " On average, only about 10 to 20 percent of the nicotine content in a snus portion reaches the bloodstream. "

When I smoked, around half a pack a day or more, and thought I had a strong tolerance to nicotine, I tried a Catch Licorice Mini-snus. Half the nicotine content compared to a regular sized, non-sterk snus (4 mg compared to 8 mg). I got a crazy-ass buzz, almost puked. It maybe had to do with the fact that I had an empty stomach or whatever, I don't remember... but regular sized portions will feed your nicotine monster for sure.

Start out with General White, or any white portion snus of your choice. The juice can be a little to much when not used to it. I remember, I got a throat burn and felt a bit sick from even white portions in the very beginning. But don't let this scare you! It disappears in a pretty short time, and then it's the juice you want.

I quit smoking using snus, and I absolutely loved smoking and had no real intention or desire to quit. But I did. Now I have been offered cigarettes like a hundred times, and I have said no still. Snus is great!
