    Another Noob story!

Well, I'd like to introduce myself. The name's Jake, for anyone interested. I've been trying all sorts of tobacco products lately, just out of curiosity. I've been into pipe smoking, but that got old in 2 weeks. I tried cigs, but they became boring in less than a week. I don't plan on trying dip or chew at all. Yuck.

    Now I'm on to snus.

I really wanted something that I could enjoy anytime of the day, or around other people. That is one of my favorite things about snusing

I was first introduced to snus by my friend yesterday who gave me a pack of some Marlboro Spearmint "snus"

I put snus in quotations specifically because that product should be called another word starting with "S..." because it was just a listerine strip in a pouch.

Well I was so disgusted by it that today I went out and bought some REAL Swedish snus to see if there was difference.

Boy am I glad I did! I bought three cans of it: General Mini Mint, General Mint, and General Loose snus.

I started with the Mini Mint and was completely awestruck by the difference in taste and quality. It doesn't taste like a harsh piece of candy like the marlboro fake snus. It reminded me of "Winterfresh" gum that I used to chew when I was younger.

Then I wasn't satisfied with the "Nic' Kick" from the mini, so I grabbed the pouch of General Mint and popped one in... It tasted very similar to the mini mint, but had more of a tobacco undertone. It also completely knocked me over with the nicotine hit. My head was swirling in circles so much I had to lay down after having it in for about an hour.

So I gave myself a couple hours to clear the nic out of my system before giving the Loose Snus a try. Well, I tried to bake in based on what I observed on Youtube and read in the forums using my hands, which was fairly successful. I made a little brick of it and jammed it under my upper lip...

But this is where the story gets funny

Well I didn't really like the way it was sitting under my lip so I started to poke and prod at it, producing a full-on meltdown like a Japanese reactor after and earthquake. I ended up totally aborting and just spitting it all out over the course of 5 minutes or so hahaha. I'll stow it in my freezer for when I'm feeling adventurous again.

So that's my story, and I'm currently on the lookout for a white portion of General. I just can't find any within half an hour's drive

      Welcome to s....wait a second.....

If you have no prior nicotine addiction why are you "trying tobacco products out of curiosity "?

      They are curiously addictive.

I truly understand that it is your choice blah blah blah but seriously consider the ramifications of your curiosity ...it ends in lots of money spent on an addiction that you do not have at the moment....if I read your first post correctly.....

Welcome! I'm a newbie too and found great support here. I highly recommend you give Jakobsson's Mint or Wintergreen a try, as this brand is somewhat easy to find locally too. After you've gone through a can or two you'll likely have a pretty good idea what you like and what you're willing to try. I made the mistake of investing all my efforts in to an untested brand and flavor and ended up trading so stick with a variety your first online order.

Snus is a very satisfying way to enjoy nicotine without the drawbacks of American smokeless tobacco or cigarette, but as the other poster eluded to, be careful. There's no point starting an addiction if you don't already have one.

Best of luck in whatever you do choose and again, welcome.

Wow, I didn't realize how hardcore a nicotine addiction is until today when I didn't have any... :X dang it.

I wanted it to be just something to enjoy once in a while. Like a cup of the finest coffee.

Nicotine is not meant to be enjoyed once in a while nor is it meant to be taken recreationally or even out of curiosity.... Nicotine is the most highly addictive drug on the planet and once addicted is is the hardest drug to come off of.... Most of us on here are using snus to quit cigarettes and Dip by Using a harm reduced alternative...

                  Jake,

Nicotine is nothing to be trifled with.

I wish I had never started and a bunch of us have that same sentiment.

It is not worth taking that chance....some people can smoke a cigar every six months and never have a problem.

Most people are not so lucky.

Stick to coffee or fine wines....

Tobacco is not a luxury...it is an addictive drug.

Good luck, and I hope you make a wise decision...

You know, after the experience I had today and listening to what you guys have to say I'm really reconsidering the choice.

Although I must say that it is pretty amazing, it is probably not worth being addicted to for the rest of my life. Not only because of the monetary ramifications, but social ones as well.

Well I must thank you for the advice, as I have definitely taken heed of it.

I am sore about not being able to enjoy it once in a while like a cigar tho

Marijuana is a much better choice... Go play with some mushrooms and LSD... something that will really make you feel good and not become physically addicting.

Smoking cigarettes in the first place is and will probably always be the biggest regret of my life. Snus is an alternative.... I hope to switch to mini portions and then in time reduce my intake to where I can sweat it out for a few weeks and be done with it all together.

LOL. Marry J is not for me.

I know wayyyyyy to many people who get caught with it and lose their jobs, probation, etc.

LSD and mushrooms you say? I'm pretty sure these could be very dangerous. As in deadly on the first try.

Sorry, but i will have to pass

o_0 deadly? maybe, who knows what you kids can get your hands on these days.

A decade ago the world was flush with great LSD, high quality marijuana, and pristine mushrooms.

In some places I'm sure that's still the case... Though I suspect from the news it's all been replaced by cheap pot, meth, heroin, and steep laws.... Add poor popular music and it's a terrible time to be a kid.
