And, I have a few thoughts on my first experience with real Swedish snus:
My first order was nothing more than a roll of General Mini Mint. It seems silly to order a whole roll of something I've never tried before, but it seemed like a well liked beginner snus that didn't carry a lot of risk, and I didn't want to be stuck with a bunch of stuff I wasn't ready for while I waited on another order. I'm not too worried about it anymore, the second I put my first portion in I knew I wasn't going back to the Camel crap.
First thing I noticed was how soft and easy the portion material was on my gums. I don't think I realized how bad the Camels were tearing up my gums. The only problem with it was that without some roughness to it and the size of the mini portions, I could barely feel that the snus was even there. Now that may not sound like a problem but it made it a little bit difficult to keep it in position, it kept sliding down onto my teeth.
I mentally prepared for the blast of toothpastey mint and burning sensation that I've come to expect from the Camel Frost, but that wasn't what I got. Instead I got a gentle menthol cooling effect with a nice hint of peppermint aroma. Loads better. I did notice the saltiness with these, but I guess I expected it to be more overpowering than it was. And the loss of the extreme sweetness from the Camels was also very nice. Smokeless tobacco comes with warning labels that say they may cause gum disease and tooth loss. What they don't tell you is that it isn't the tobacco, it's all the damn sugar that does it! I swear if I kept on with those Camels my teeth would have rotted right out of my head. After I got over the saltiness I picked up a much gentler sweetness from the General that was a lot more pleasant.
So, here's a question: What in the HELL are these American tobacco companies putting in their products? I noticed with the Swedish stuff that I got a nice nicotine kick without any of the nausea or headache that I'd been associating with the American stuff. Mind you, it was getting to where it wasn't affecting me as badly as when I started out, but I was under the impression that the nausea and headache were just side-effects of the nicotine. But they were just nowhere to be found when I tried the Swedish snus! So what's the difference? It really makes me start to wonder if many of the negative health effects we see from tobacco are really from nasty chemicals and additives that the tobacco companies put in. And what the hell for? I read time and time again on these forums, everyone pretty much agrees that the Swedish stuff is just a better product, and that the purity is a big part of that. God, if it ever catches on with people, the American companies are going to have problems. Big ones.
I was impressed enough that I placed another order today and got more of a variety to try:
Odens Classic Original, Loose - 1 pcs.
Göteborgs Rapé, White Mini (873) - 1 pcs.
Probe, Loose - 1 pcs.
Röda Lacket, Loose - 1 pcs.
Röda Lacket, White Portion - 1 pcs.
General, White Portion (US) - 1 pcs.
General, Loose (US) - 1 pcs.
Ettan, Portion - 1 pcs.
Ettan, Loose - 1 pcs.
Ettan, White Portion - 1 pcs.
General, Mini Portion - 1 pcs.
CatchDry Eucalyptus, White Mini Portion - 1 pcs.
Hopefully that will tie me over for a while. Oh, and congratulations if you read all the way to the end of my little novella here.
