    Snus having negative effect

I am someone who only really smokes when drinking and never really felt like cigarettes but about 3 weeks ago I started to use snus. I would have just one or two a day, but now I'm having four or five and I've noticed the last couple of days I've had this really bad craving formore nicotine. The feeling of relaxation that Snus used to give me is getting milder and I feel like I'm really bored all the time, I can't seem to relieve the boredom. I even thought about going to buy a pack of cigarettes for more nicotine. Do you think Im having too much snus ? I don't want to have to quit as I love it but its becoming more that I am doing it because I feel the need to more than because I like it, as i previously did.

    Welcome to SnusOn!

Sounds like addiction to me. I'd chill out on it a bit, unless you don't mind being addicted to nicotine.

Nicotine tends to get the mind going so I don't think you are having too much.. Hate to say it but it sounds like your body is asking for more.. If you were a smoker before you would be in a good place because we are used to that feeling every 25 min and suns keeps that edge off. Hiting the snus box 12 times a day is downgrade if you know what I mean..It was long ago that Vit N felt really good so I won't be much help there.

Now, I love snus because I feel it saved me from a lot of the trouble I was going to face with cigs in the future but if I were just starting down the old nic road I would turn back.. Just me though.. Some people don't have addictive personalities and can just enjoy it in moderation..

      Good Luck..

Thanks for the replies guys! I've definatly over done it as I previously have never had nicotine cravings and I can smoke 10 cigarettes on a night out. Think I'm going to limit to one, maybe two a day as I think the fact I am starting chain snusingis taking me down a bad road, but I hope I can just enjoy it as a wind down from work once a day without getting this feeling.

Unless you don't tolerate it well snus is such a huge improvement, in every way, that switching from cigs is a no brainer. If one is a smoker, and therefore to some extent already addicted to nicotine, then switching to snus can do nothing but improve your life no matter how much you crave nicotine. Nicotine, although assuredly addictive, has few if any serious health consequences in the absence of inhaling the burning leaf. I think we pretty much all have a built in cultural bias that disapproves of an "addiction" to any substance on general principles and so few would argue that starting to use snus when one is not already a tobacco user is a poor idea.

Even fewer would say that it was a good idea for teenagers to take it up but for them using snus is a drastically less harmful enterprise than most of the other "illegal" things that teens pursue and there is little or no proof that it leads anyone towards smoking. Using Swedish snus or even the excremental Camel and Marlboro imposters is a long way ahead of smoking and any kid already smoking would be well advised to switch. In any case a vague guilt about "addiction" is decidedly misplaced when considering switching to snus since the benefits are so large, even if your snus consumption is quite high. Ten rolls of Odens Extreme is far less harmful to one's health, in every respect, than a single pack of smokes

Sounds like your not getting enough nicotine, but if you don't want to be addicted than definitely cut back or even skip a day to help reduce your tolerance, which will improve the effects you get when you use again. 99.5% of all nicotine addicts wish they never started so keep that in the back of your mind, though I personally don't mind my habit.

You may want to look into e-cigs or nasal snuff, which gives you a quick dose of nic at once, like smoking does, whereas snus gives you a high dose of nic that absorbs over a period of time, if you were never a heavy smoker than you may still prefer a quick lower dose.

Sounds like you are conditioning your body/mind to needing nicotine delivered more often/more consistently.

This chart has been posted before.. Look at the nicotine blood levels when used on snus vs cigarettes.

I posted a link instead because when included the image it was huge!

And I bet that differs based on how strong the cigarette is.

I was a former ultra light smoker who converted to snus using mini's (first camel) and that took me like 3 weeks of nicotine buzz to get used to it. I believe I was having small short spikes of nicotine delivery when I smoked with a cigarette aprox every hour. When I switched to mini's I bet I have nicotine levels that are elevated compared to when I smoked 95% of the day.

I love snus compared to smoking, but I know now after my conversion to snus I have a higher level of nicotine withdrawl now when I don't snus compared to what I got with cigarettes when I went over that 2 - 3 hour no smoke window. Because my body adjusted to that type of delivery to getting it at higher levels for far longer during the day. And I bet for people that chain snus the graph on blood levels gets even more like 1 long bubble for the day.

I have found what works the best for me is waiting between 30-45 minutes between mini portions and I do that all day every day. I get a relaxing feeling every portion, although it is always the best for me after eating. Any sooner then that and there must not be a good enough dip in my blood levels to feel it as much between portions.

It is a worthy trade-off for me using in this manner. (needing the nicotine more then when I smoked)

I wish that I found this snus fifteen years ago, maybe more. I smoked for 15 years anyhow and now that I see how much less of a body load snus has and IMO an even greater nicotine experience...more even and smooth. It has a fantastic taste and satisfies the oral fixation too. Anyone here can probably tell you more benefits than drawbacks but then again...we're just about all addicts to some degree.

I read the first first post again and I don't see the negative effect. It's a stimulant and you're bored. It would be complimentary IMO. Your body will eventually stabilize to a comfortable level. Go ahead and binge if you want to. You'll see. I dig snus 'cos slow and steady wins the race. You'll find a nice even level to keep you in the frame of mind you prefer. SnusOn.

You should stop using snus. You are becoming addicted and, to not be addicted, stop now.

Addiction to tobacco is a costly adventure most people would have preferred not paying for.

I used snus to quit smoking....as most of us here have.

Gotta say I'm with Monkey on this one...by all means use the snus as a replacement for smoking when you drink on Friday or Saturday night if you want. When that Monday morning craving hits, I'd quit it all while I was ahead.

I'd wager 95% of us on here were smokers, and at least half started out "just smoking a pack on the weekend". 15 years later and I'm thinking "Wow, at just $4.00 a pack I spent at least $22,000 on cigarettes!"

Makes my $30-40 a month snus habit feel pretty cheap! Think I'll place an order on premiumsnus.com now...

it's not boredom but its rather tiredness which is quite normal with snus (plus if you were a smoker.. you dont do anything with your hands while snusing and that might be a plus to feel more bored..

Thanks for all the honest replies! I didn't have my morning snus but had one after work instead, I just need to avoid chain snusing. I'm enjoying the slight taste of Turkish Delight from Old Viking at the minute and my reduction in snus has got rid of the bored feeling and increased the effect of each portion Snus on!
