Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have not tried real Swede snus yet. I have two Skoal snus portions in right now and the nicotine is not enough. These two are too sweet as well. I am also a former smoker. I still think of smoking because I'm not getting satisfaction from this American snus. I am very happy to have found this wonderful forum. I am placing my first order very soon. Hopefully this eveninng. I have read many posts and am now worried about too strong a snus for my first go around. I have decided on strong portions(14-17) mg. The Oden's Extreme sounds really good as well but I am pretty sure it would be too strong to start with. Being a former smoker(a couple months now) and being no where satisfied with Marlboro or Skoal snus, even two at a time, should I start out slow and build up? Any help and experienced input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Two Skoal snus is not cutting it!

Welcome to the forum, gratitudefortoday!
While I have no idea about Skoal "snus", I know that you generally have to wait about 35 minutes for the "maximum nicotine effect". Snus is totally different from cigarettes.
Just try some of the stronger Swedish brands and don't forget to try lössnus! Lös has a much better nicotine-delivery than portions.
Cheers!

I found three stores in your area that should carry the General lineup:
The Liquor Barn
4301 Towne Centre Drive
Louisville KY, 40241
502-426-4222
Cox's Smokers Outlet #12
294 N Hubbards Lane
Louisville KY, 40207
502-897-5289
Kremer's Smoke Shoppe
401 East Jefferson Street
Louisville KY, 40202
502-584-3332
You should visit one of the locations and try some General. I think it's a great snus for beginners.
The General lineup includes: Mint, Mini Mint, White, Wintergreen, Original, and Loose.
I would recommend starting with the White or Original, then try out the Loose... But whatever you do, avoid the wintergreen!
Best of luck, and welcome to SnusOn!Words of Wisdom

Eh they're ok not great kind of weak.
I'd buy some strong jakobson's mint, wintergreen, and classic strong (I'd say 2 cans of each would be a safe bet), thunder frosted, original, and coola, nick and johnny original and white, Nick and Johnny crushed ice, Oden's xtreme (maybe work your way up), general extra sterk, general onyx and a couple of regular strength portions ettan, grov, tre ankre, general white, original, and mint. If you want to try loose I would buy a prismaster and get at least one can of roda lacket since it's the easiest to use. That's a good baseline and add whatever looks good.

It is good to remember that each snus, combined with one's personal chemistry, will exhibit a different apparent level of nic onset and strength. Since the average non-strong Swedish portion is already stronger than any American product you could well do fine with snus "rated" at 8mg. The stronger stuff, at first anyway, could conceivably kick your butt. Regular 8mg portions might be all you need. No way to tell without trying but have a care in barging straight into the strong portions.

For me, my mood stress level and what I have had to eat are all factors as well in snus effect on me. It is a personal and a variety of strengths should give you a good gauge.
And welcome to snuson!

Darwin: Yes indeed that could totally be the situation. I am going to order several cans of 8mg and several of the strong portions. It would probably be preferrable for me to be satisfied by the regular portions and have some strong for periodic enjoyment. If that is the case then I could potentially have a can of strong open for over a week. If I do have a can of portions, regardless of strength, open that long should I keep it in the freezer/refrigerator and take a snus out as needed to preserve freshness? Thank you.

A lot of folks keep their open cans in fridge and unopened ones in the freezer. A day or three out of the cold is no big deal but more than that and one is courting a bit of drying out which will of course affect the moister "original" portions more. That's the strategy most often used but there's little reason to be obsessive about it. I keep my open cans in a Ziplock in the fridge so I can just scoop them up to take to work. Unopened cans in the freezer, Ziplocked of course, will ensure many months of freshness.

I'd say check out some of those local spots and grab a can or 2 of General to tide you over until you can get an order going.. General mint is pretty similar to the skoal mint, but not as overpoweringly sweet (it's the sucralose sweetener they use in the stuff), I'd say grab a can of general mint or white/origional portion. 1 month with the General and no cigs for me!!!
