So, I've been snusing for about a week now. I've been using Oden's Extra Stark and Thunder Frosted Extra mostly, but no matter what kind I use - loose or pouches - I seem to be getting this awkward feeling in my chest/upper stomach area that feels like a mix between a hunger pang and the feeling you get when you're really excited (butterflies). I've never had heartburn before. There's no pain, it just feels weird. After a little while my mouth starts to salivate as if I'm going to vomit but I don't feel nauseous at all. It only happens when I put it in my upper lip, and I swallow the juice. Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone explain it?

I also have it now and then. More before than now though.
Nicotine raises your metabolism since it's a stimulant, and also suppresses your insulin levels, which makes you have some what higher blood sugar levels in your blood than you (probably) would without nicotine. This causes nicotine users to be somewhat hyperglycemic. This in its turn can also cause an excessive hunger feeling.
It probably passes though when you have used snus for a longer period of time, and it's not dangerous.
You should also now that more nicotine can equal more of these feelings in the beginning. Odens Extra Stark and Thunder Frosted contains double the nicotine compared to "regular" strength snus, which adds to the equation. My tip is: drink water and eat a little snack (something healthy, like a fruit, or crisp bread) and the feeling will be reduced once you have used snus for a longer time.

See my post entitled 'Nicotine and Insulin', in the 'Snus and Health' forum. I had to stop using snus for most of last year due to a similar issue, and used nasal snuff exclusively instead. But I've found within the past 6 months that if I follow a few basic rules, I don't have a problem. Regular strength only, no starks at all. No monster prillas. I have to practice some moderation---I can't snus and snuff at the same time(damn!!). And I can't really use any snus with an artificial sweetener in it---the occasional can of General Mint is ok, but only if I limit it to a portion or two in a day. In fact, I have cut artificial sweeteners out of my equation almost totally.

Originally posted by rictorblackbusI totally had that butterflies feeling on my first 2 or 3 cans. A little practice in moderation and it subsided for me. And I agree with Nash, I also started eating less once I started Snusing.
ask any heavy smoker (30-40 cigarettes a day) how many meals they eat a day and most of them will tell you "ONE"
and thats usually dinner (5PM) and maybe a few snacks in between
