I drove to a neighboring town to try real snus lol. Also a question.

Hello fellas, just wanted to share my first impressions of real snus! First off I'm not a smoker or dipper, even though I tried both out of curiosity in the past, (different types of skoal and Cope) and although I liked the nicotine kick, it just wasn't something I cared for. A couple of weeks ago I noticed Camel and Marlboro "snus" haha even though it's been around for years I later found out, but I tried them both, googled wtf I was using, only to find out that I was sold a lie! A sweet sweet lie!

So, long story short, I see the ranting and raving over Swedish snus, find the General store locator, and over the weekend procured General original and Wintergreen. What a difference! It's a night and day difference that I wasn't necessarily expecting, but a nice one. Original gave me a nice tobacco smokey savoriness, and wintergreen a tingly and refreshing feeling.

My question is, although I liked them, they're a little underwhelming... it feels like something is missing. I need more drip, more powerful flavors that take over my mouth lol. Open to suggestions.
    (Sorry for the long read)

Oh, here's what I've got in the mail:
    Northerner Boost
    Northerner Citrus & Menthol
    Odens Original, Portion
Göteborgs Rapé Summer Edition 2011, Portion
    General Onyx, Black Portion
    General Smooth, White Medium Portion
    Ettan, Portion

Odens Extreme for a hard-core spicy tobacco flavor. Since your a newb to nicotine it might put you in the hospital though..lol

For minty snus, try Nick and johnny crushed ice and Jakobssons mint or Thunder frosted/wintergreen

That's a fair spread for starters but don't despair if some of them are not to your liking. There are a lot more choices out there and besides that your tastes will evolve in the first few weeks and months of use. You'll taste a lot of salt in some of them but you'll likely get used to that quickly. Welcome.

thanks for the replies. I actually considered Oden's extreme, but I think I'll ease into the snus world a little more gently haha

Nicotine addiction is a slippery slope and I do not encourage non tobacco users to try or begin using tobacco. It is expensive and can adversely affect your health. A tobacco addiction is not something a nonuser wants and I, for one, would like to have never started.....quitting is hard, not starting is much easier.

Snus is about harm reduction for me and I do not suggest you continue using snus. If this is about chasing a buzz, that feeling will fade quick and then it will be about feeding an addiction.

Of course, it is your choice, and, this is just my opinion.

Understood, I'm pretty good at practicing restraint if I feel I'm becoming dependent. I don't drink, smoke, do drugs (prescription or otherwise) and I haven't been to a fast food place in almost three years, but I appreciate the warning and will tread carefully amigos.

Ok... I am somewhat new and like a strong taste as well.. On your list I think you will like the onyx, and Odens for their full taste.. The northerners are awesome for what they are.(healthier, clean teeth, discrete) the others are just good snus but not in my rotation..

Oh.. And I can't even taste Ettan... I have some and every time I put one in it's like WTF... and I spit it out...

You will love some things now, and hate others. In a few months you'll have a completely different perspective on them. Your tastes eventually adapt, but I'll say the first 6 months is up and down taste profile modification.

I wasn't a big tobacco user when I started snus, occasional cig or cigar. And I did smoke hookah a lot. Now I only really snus, dip, occasional nasal snuff and the rare occasional cigar or cigarillo.

I didn't even really do it for the buzz either. I just found something I enjoyed and I kept with it. Honestly, I hate to be without tobacco bit there has been days when I have went basically without it.

Just take it slow and of you feel like it's becoming a problem then work your way off by decreasing nicotine, size and quantity.
                  Good luck.

I haven't, but I'll try it. Matter of fact I'll try everything suggested above. I knew I should have thrown in a Jakobssons/Thunder variety. Thanks for the suggestions, welcomes, and warnings fellas.

So I got my Snus in, and I've tried one of each lol. So far I'm really digging the Onyx, Ettan, and Oden's original. I think I'm definitely going to have to try more minty flavors as well. Jakobssons/Thunder are now on my list now as well. Nothing has given me a nic hit at all though, which is kinda surprising.

I really hate the sticker they put on all the cans... wasn't expecting those. They're the cheap stickers too that tear when you try to take them off. The stickers really mess up the look of some of these cans. Oh well.

Thunder hasn't given you a nic hit? At all? Good grief you must be incredibly resistant to the effects of nicotine. If you don't feel anything after a few days of trying then I suggest you chuck the whole idea. Snus may be tasty but a substitute for candy it ain't.

Haha no no no I haven't tried Thunder yet, it was suggested above, but I meant that I'll try it out next order. Out of the ones that I listed in my first post none of them has had any kind of nicotine buzz, but to my knowledge Onyx is the strongest that I've tried so far. I don't know how resistant I am... come to think of it the only thing that's ever really hit me was a healthy pinch of Copenhagen long cut.

I really dig mint snus. You might want to try general mint. Thunder long portion is really great to but not as sweet and its a regular portion.

I just got onxy, goteborgs rape se 2011, ettan, and some general loose.

Onxy is a good tasting snus and I'm glad you like it. Its my fave non flavored snus.

Ettan good but barely taste like tea.

Don't feel bad I had to drive 3 hours to get real snus before ordering.
