Questions for second order and other things

Hey guys, coming away from dipping for about 5 years and am going to be putting in a new order soon and i had a few questions. If you have answers I'd appreciate responding with what question you are answering as I have quiet a few to ask. My list of questions is quite long and i truly appreciate any help you guys provide even if you just want to add a little something that might help me out, that i havent asked. Thank you all so much.

    FLAVORS:
I had a few cans of odems extreme and it is described as "tobacco flavored" it didnt taste anything like my copenhagen longcut straight, is this what "tobacco flavor" in all snus tastes like? or is odens just different?

Sterks. Does this refer to flavor at all? I can swear i remember reading about someone not liking the taste of sterks (starks?) I think it just refers to a higher amount of nicotine. So would my odens extreme technically be a sterk?

Strange flavors i've seen. Eucalyptus, Juniperry etc, WTF do these taste like? I've seen some of these flavors like juniperry ive never even heard of let alone tasted.

Olde Viking Ginger/lime. Ive read this tastes like cream soda, ive read it tastes like chocolate. Do you like the taste regardless? Chocolate in a tobacco sounds kinda revulting but im willing to give it a try.

Differences between straight tobacco. I see flavors such as course, rich, pure tobacco, what is the difference?

Ive heard a lot of buzz about pioneer snuff. Is this product different than snus? What is with the different name? And that is also a tobacco taste what does that taste like?

How long is the holiday snus around? I dont remember the names but theres 2 kinds. They are out of 1 kind. I'm wondering if i have time to try it first before i stock up if needed.

    STORAGE:

I really havent refridgerated or frozen my snus since i got it about 2 weeks ago and it seems fine. Is refridgeration really important if I'm planning to use it within a certian amount of time? Just wondering, i might just get a big cooler and throw some ice packs in it to switch every day, as i dont want to take up extra room in me and my roomates fridge. It seems to me like my portions have dried out perhaps a little but my loose hasnt seemed any different.

    TRANSPORTATION:
I'm trying to get a friend that lives quite a distance away from me to try to kick his dip habit as well. He seems to be hesitant at placing an order. I was thinkign I'd place my order and throw in a few cans he might like and have him send the rest to me. I see you guys have the snus box pass on here. Is it legal to use say a usps flat rate box to send tobacco? Would they ever open it up and check whats inside? I assure you all I'm certainly old enough to buy tobacco but im hardly home enough to sign for a package which is why sending to him and having him send to me would be a better option anyways. (I live in the US by the way)

Pioneer is a very nice snus with a good tobacco flavor but not much of a nic kick to it. It is well worth trying a can and it is delicious. If you like plain snus, you might also want to try Grov, Granit, Thunder OT5 and Gellivare when it comes back.

There really is no snus that tastes like dip. Extreme is peppery.....try some Ettan, Grov or Phantom Brown. Very straight forward tobacco flavor.

Sterk refers to nicotine content but the flavor of a sterk is usually stronger than the regular strength of the same brand.

Juniper tastes like gin. Eucalyptus.....not sure.

Never had Ginger lime..but try everything. Never know what you will like.

Holiday snus is around until they sell out of it. Maybe march? Depends on how well it sells.

Storage wise......freezing and refrigerating is the best as it retards the growth of tsnas. You can keep it at room temperature with a little flavor sand moisture loss.

Transportation ...throw it in the mail and don't tell them what it is. USPS is going broke anyway and wont refuse mail for the most part.

      Good luck!

I liked the Ginger and lime. But it didnt taste like chocolate. It went well with cream soda. It was a nice flavor but not something i would use all of the time.

Eucalyptus is kinda mentholy. Idk how else to explain it. Burned the mouth and the flavor was good. But it burned the hell out of my throat.

For eucalyptus, think Halls blue cough drops. Gin is primarily flavoured with juniper berries as was mentioned. And there's no real pure tobacco flavoured dip out there that I know of. All Copenhagen products have added flavours, so you can't really use Cope as a reference for pure tobacco taste. From memory, the main flavours added to your standard Cope Snuff cut, which I'm enjoying at the moment, are molasses and hickory. To further confound the issue of recognizing a "pure tobacco taste," different strains of tobacco will have vastly different tastes, for example Latakia's are a far cry away from the taste of Virginia's or Perique tobacco. Even the same strains can taste substantially different when grown in different climates. The same seeds planted in Nicaragua may taste very different if planted and grown in Malawi. In terms of snus, a pure tobacco flavoured snus basically just means they haven't added any other flavourings to it. General, Ettans, Grov, and Odens Extreme are all "pure tobacco tasting" snus, but they do all taste pretty different. I'd recommend Ettans and Grov, and if/when they return, Landströms and Gellivare are also personal favourites.

Sterk/Stark does indeed just refer to nicotine content. I have noticed that sterks often are more bitter than their regular 8mg/g counterparts, so that could be what the other poster was speaking of. I'm not 100% on how long holiday snus is around, but from past experience the stores don't get any more shipments in after December, and the last of the stock usually runs out around the tail end of January or early February.

Refrigeration is recommended, especially if you build up a stockpile like many of us do. It can really help out to have 3 rolls in reserve so that if something screws up your order to restock, you don't get stuck without anything for weeks. According to another thread, 14 months is the upper limit that Northerner considers acceptable to have snus unrefrigerated. This might not effect you now, but you may want to invest in a mini-fridge for snus anyway. I'm at the point where I know what I like, and how much I use, so I can place a handful of orders at once and have all the snus I need for a year show up.

Mailing tobacco is legal between private individuals, but if you want to do things by the books, there's a limit on what you can send in any 30 day period. I believe it's 200g/ 1 carton, but you'd want to look it up and make sure. You'd also have to declare it's contents at the post office, have them affix a special sticker to it, show your ID, and your friend will have to show his ID when it gets to him. If you're less concerned about obeying the rules, I would say they're relatively unlikely to open it unless you screw up and make the package suspicious somehow. Just remember, though it's unlikely (I've don this myself more than a few times), it's entirely possible that your package could be the unlucky one, and you could get in a heap of trouble for it. I believe it's the same charge as a commercial shipment to a customer via USPS, which would land you a Class C Felony. So if you decide to just drop it in and pray, keep in mind that any trouble you get yourself in is on you, and you alone. I know that sounds kind of grim, but just covering my ass. Also, USPS has implemented a blanket ban on any international shipments. Again, it's something I've ignored, but the same disclaimer applies for any future trading you might do. And that one would be even more trouble, as fudging a customs declaration is a crime in itself, and that's the only way you're going to get it in the system at all.

            Weeks. WEEKS! :^D

I may even be wrong with that, but 14 weeks unrefrigerated is what I remember, and believable to me. My long term snus is all frozen. I have stuff that expired at the beginning of 2008, and it's perfectly fine. Not factory fresh good, but good enough that someone not familiar with the brand wouldn't know the difference. I've used stuff that's been in the fridge for 2 years, and though it dries out tremendously, it tastes fine. It can be remoistened with water, or your favorite spirit. I suggest scotch. I don't have experience with shelf stored snus since I prefer mine chilled, but I've left snus out for a couple weeks, and it's held up ok. That's with normal lid opening/closing to get snus. A sealed tin would hold up better.

Ettan is my snus. All it is is tobacco, water, and salt.. I bet that's as close to a pure tobacco taste you can get.

I agree with some of this except what I highlighted in bold.... All of that is total BS.... Damn Dude what the hell, How would you make the package suspicious? By putting a pot leaf/ tobacco leaf on it, How dumb could someone be to make it suspicious? And if they do they deserve the consequences ... Too funny..... USPS is not going to open the box and at best when you are at the post office they ask are there any perishables, Liquids and a few other questions ..... yeah once out of the 100 or so times I sent snus even asked if there was any tobacco... All you have to do is say no.... It's not like they have tobacco sniffing dogs....

Thunder_Snus.... Don't give it a second thought... Just send it USPS or have your Friend send it and just say no to any questions that the post office clerk asks you... You don't have to declare shit, You live in the US..... You won't go to jail, Get prosecuted or anything of the sort... What a bunch of crap in that post... Yeah there is a limit, But is is never enforced, you just need to know and that is that... It's not like your sending dope through the US postal service.. Don't worry about it and move on and just do it, Like i have 100's of times.... Peace out!

Jag speaks the truth about the usps. If they ask me next time if there is any tobacco in the package I'll proclaim It's Ettan and Skruf! You know they will have no idea what I'm talking about lol.

Or just say it's samples of Ettan and Skruf .... Sometimes if they ask what is in the box my reaction is.. It's none of your business and just tell them it's memorabilia cans, But mostly they never ask... Would they ask what gift your mailing to someone? No .. your mailing a gift of memorabilia... That is that...

I didn't see anything that shikitohno posted that was incorrect. Saying it's risk free is dishonest, and it could bite someone in the ass if they get unlucky. An envelope could easily get mangled by a machine, or poor handling, and they'd know what's inside. What would they do about it? Who knows? I don't know, and no one else here does either. All we know is what they /could/ do, so that's what has to be assumed. All it takes is one postmaster with a hard on, to make your life very unpleasant for awhile, and people need to be aware of that possibility.

But what about sending from overseas, my scavenger hunt contest is ending soon and let say if the winner is from US, and I'm sending it with regular mail (maxi letter, it is track and trace option too)?
