    Question

I have been smoking cigarettes for a few years and I want to get my lungs in better condition before army basic training so I decided to switch to smokeless. I have used dip before (Copenhagen long cut) and it was pretty good but I've decided to start using snus. I've tried portions, but I decided I want to try loose. I went to the closest place that sells General snus that I found on the online store locator and bought a can of General Loose. Upon opening the can it seemed somewhat dry compared to dip and was stuck in large chunks in the can. Is this normal or does the store not store it properly? Is it supposed to be more moist and not stuck together? On the bottom it says it doesn't expire until about 5 months from now.
    Thanks in advance,

Hey Austin, welcome to snus and snuson. A can of General loose will be lumped together in a few large chucks with the rest of it more the consistency of wet dirt, which is to say... some chunking is normal. But are you sure it's dry? Usually dry snus will be pretty granular and not so much clumped together. Did you throw some in, and was it dry? Those lumps in the lössnus can be great for just picking up and putting in, so to speak.... anyway hope this helps. lössnus is way different than dip, but easy enough to get used to, especially as a smoker. I never dipped much but I have on more than a few occasions, so I'm trying to relate, imagining what it would be like to to transition right from cans of dip to some General you picked up at a store. Try some other brands if you're not into it. General is the Marlboro of snus, but I always hated Marlboros.

Hey listen to roo, He is infamous around here for sending snus packages too the enlisted, He gives good advise! You should watch a few vids about it, definitely before throwing it out, From my own perspective, don't compare it to dip, it's different........

Consider dip a rusted out Ford pick up with Yosemite Sam mudflaps and los snus a brand new Mercedes.

as long as you are make a few "considerations" you may consider Erichill [our master video poster] as Snusons own little Woody Allen. But without the potential oriental pedophile tendencies. However, he does play pocket pool alot. If you ever meet him you had better think twice about shaking is hand.

sorry eric, thats better than telling that dude the real truth about your addiction.

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Thanks for the fast responses. I don't really use dip very often, I just picked up a can instead of a pack of cigarettes to hold me off until I had time to drive to the next city to get some snus. I had just heard that snus is supposed to feel very moist so I wasn't sure. I'm not completely sure if it was dry or not, since I haven't tried loose before. There were a some small granular pieces and like 3 really big chunks. I tried some and it tasted good (basically the same as the portions I've tried) but it took around 20-30 minutes before I started getting the full flavor out of it. When I first brought it home earlier today I just assumed it was dry and added a few drops of water and shook it around.

Probably it's not dried out if the expiration date is that far off. But it won't look like dip, from what I've seen of dip. However, if you do run across dry snus, you can easily revive it by adding a couple drops of purified water and letting it sit in the frig for a day or two.

And good luck with your future in the military and welcome to the board.
