Snus newbie <3

Haha hey...snus newbie. In fact, basically a virgin in regards to it. Decided to join this forum because I have questions and you seem like a knowledgable bunch :P

So, I've been testing out different flavors, and so far I like Canel Frost Snus. Been using it throughout the day and really enjoy the taste...I was a smoker, but dropped it because girlfriend didn't like it. Went to dip, but she didn't like that either and since she's pretty awesome and I'm pretty whipped, I decided on snus. She doesn't care about the snus and says it smells good and I've fallen in love with it, so I'm sticking with it hah

Anyways, what other flavors are good? I love camel frost, and somewhat enjoy the wintergreen. Mellow didn't do it for me. Skoal snus is alright, but so far camel is favorite. Selection here is fairly limited (Albuquerque, NM) haha. Swedish Snus is nonexistent here (as far as I know) so before I order some online, what's good for Sweish brands? Flavors?

BTW, is it just me or does anyone else find snusing before bed makes going to sleep easier? The light buzz clears my head and sleep comes easily :P

As for placement on snus, I've been placing the pouches in different areas in my mouth, but still get lots of saliva. Any good areas for reduced saliva. I usually use two pouches.

Hmm...also, is swallowing the snus harmful? How is Snus compared to other products in terms of risks?

Welcome! Try out the Jakobssons strong line. Should be a good intro to Swedish snus .....and they are all delicious.

To be honest, if you like Camel snus you should be in heaven. I would stick with it. You can go to any gas station and pick up a tin for $2. I would stay far away form Swedish snus because once you try it the camel will taste like crap and you will never ever be able to go back. If you still feel the need to try it, I would get a sampler box like the one here.

You can also check with any local tobacco shops to see if they have General Original Portion snus which will give you a good idea of what snus is about. I also recommend checking out the exchange thread on this forum to see if anything interests you.

Never buy more than a few cans of any snus because your taste may change over time. Personally, I think flavored snus is the worst snus but at one time I did like it to a degree. Not only can I give you advice but I can also predict your future as well. In a few months time you will decide to try what is called los or loose snus and it will totally blow your mind. You will kick yourself for not trying it years ago. At that point, your freezer will be full of snus and you will be checking out websites daily for deals and new stuff coming out. Your snus usage will be a hobby and an addiction. You will also not going to give a crap what your girlfriend thinks about it and will tell her "love me, love my snus". Now, are you sure you want to try Swedish snus?

Welcome to the forum HR..........glad you found your way here

First I would try anything frosted or mint. General mint and mint minis might be a good place to start. Jacobson and the starter box are also good places to start.

A couple of things you need to know.

First, real Swedish snus will be a much purer and safer product than its American counterparts. There are purity standards in Sweden that do not exist in America. The result is the American so called snus will be more chemical based and artificially flavored/sweetened. I would be far more worried swallowing Camel than anything Swedish (in Sweden snus is regulated as a food product and thus safe to swallow). Also I would be concerned about prolonged use of Camel against my gums due to its sweetness.

Second, Swedish snus will tend to be stronger in the Nicotine department (that is why starting with minis might be more comparable to Camel strength wise). Remember, American snus was never meant to enable one to switch from cigs. It was only for "Those times when you can't light up". Thus it is intentionally a weaker product.

Finally, as you transition to Swedish snus you are moving from drinking Kool-Aid to drinking fine wine. It will take a while for your taste to acclimate. Initially snus will be a little saltier tasting and more subtle in its flavoring. Give it time, your taste will mature and adjust. In the meantime, try a variety and don't throw anything way. If you don't like a particular snus at first...........stick it in a Ziploc bag and toss it in the freezer…… revisit it in a few months. Your taste will change.

For less saliva...... place the portions in the upper lip (not the lower lip like dip). Generally, the closer to the front of the mouth you put them the less saliva you will create. However, at first I would keep some water close at hand (especially for the first 5-10 min the portion is in). Most portions will produce some juice and the water will help you wash this down......Also try to avoid getting water on the portion when you drink. After a few weeks you will not need the water as much and will be able to better manage the drip.

Truth be told I use portions all the time.....................especially when discretion is in order

but los is my preference and mainstay

In the end.................It's what works for you and what you like

The important thing is that you are not smoking..........or stuck with a bunch of chemically laced and altered products
