Source showing safety facts on snus?

Hey guys. I'm kind of pulling a hank hill and have been preaching the word of snus to some dip friends, like hank hill does with propane. Currently I'm trying to show the light to my brother. I've googled all over and what I need is a flat out site that has all the facts about swedish snus and the lack of harm it has. All i find is really comaprison between american snus and swedish snus. I"m just looking for something that shows that swedish snus is safe, not that its safer than cigarettes, american snus etc. Many thanks in advance.

Also when the eff is northerner going to have their stuff back in stock. Damn near everything I want is at 0.

Dig through the health section sticky. You can't prove a negative, so you need to compile a set of trustworthy studies that don't find risk with Swedish snus. Either that, or tell your brother to get off his ass, and prove that snus is harmful. Scare sites don't count. Peer reviewed studies from respected medical institutions, or GTFO ;^)

if you're afraid of snus, then what should we say about the 1 billion+ smokers around the world that don't even care to listen how destructive smoking can be.

Snus is harmless, both on the health, gums and anything in between ...

I'm not afraid of snus. I was just looking for a good site to have a plain list of facts all in one place.

The problem with that is any single site should be justly met with skepticism, regardless of what side they're taking. Unless you're just trying to scam him through rhetoric, a diverse collection of facts are better than a single site.

Best for your task would be www.tobaccoharmreduction.org. It's run by university-professors who go deep into the science, with many links to studies, yet they also have a comprehensible and short FAQ-section.

Similar sites are http://rodutobaccotruth.blogspot.com/ or www.smokersonly.org

A study by the Royal College of Physicians in London (the guys who started the anti-smoking movement in the 60's and obviously are shocked about what kind of unscientific nonsense movement has become of it): http://www.tobaccoprogram.org/pdf/4f...239b09c5db.pdf

A short scientific article that disenchants some well know myths about (smokeless) tobacco: http://cro.sagepub.com/content/15/5/252.full.pdf

A study by the E.U. (yeah, they banned snus and the study has a moronic anti-tobacco kindergarten nanny-state puritan undertone, but the scientific findings are correct). Skip the nonsense anti-tobacco text and have a look at the statistics: scenihr_o_013.pdf (application/pdf-Objekt)

              Cheers!

I'm not familiar with that. You can get some gum recession from snus, but I don't recall many complaints from our members. Nothing drastic anyway.

haven't been using snus for 20 years myself lol

but maybe you can point us to that particular member? I am not familiar with this.

and as lx said, and it's pretty logical that in 20 to 30 years there might be some gum recession but lets be frank here, people that snus for 20+ years are maybe aged 50, 60 or even 70 and then it might be an age issue not really from snus.

The strongest piece of evidence is this:

"Sweden has one of the lowest incidences of cancers of the lip and oral cavity in the Western world (Nilsson 2006b; Osterdahl et al. 2004), and is significantly lower than in countries where oral tobacco use is prevalent, such as the US, Sudan and India (Chapman 2007). The prevalence of oral cancer among snus users in Sweden is no higher than among non-tobacco users, in contrast to the US where rates of oral cancer are higher for smokeless tobacco users than non-tobacco users (Hatsukami et al. 2004). The lack of strong associations between snus use and squamous cell oral cavity and oesophageal cancers in two Swedish case-control studies (Lewin et al. 1998; Schildt et al. 1998) contributed to the EU’s decision to remove the requirement for warning labels regarding oral cancer on snus in 2001 (Rodu and Jansson 2004)."

                        http://nzhta.chmeds.ac.nz/publicatio...ss_tobacco.pdf

With the nanny state mentality, that says something, Not having the government mandate a cancer warning is one thing, but having them remove the requirement for a cancer warning, now that's an accomplishment!

Try as they might the tobacco nazis just can't come up with any evidence that shows a direct casual link between snus and cancer.

big thanks to all of you. Snus is somethign completely foreign to us Americans besides for shitty knockoffs. So when you tell someone about this magic substance it usually raises suspicion.

Yah, we're talking about Sweden, where by law all transgender individuals must be sterilized so as not to reproduce. So getting them to take the cancer warning off of something because they don't fear it is, imo, a HUGE accomplishment.

If you look at one of the graphs in the Royal College of Physicians report you'll see an anomaly (page 149).
People who had never used tobacco had slightly higher instances of oral and lung cancer than those who used snus. This could either just simply be an anomaly, or it could be that the large amounts of antioxidants in the tobacco leaf actually offer a degree of protection against cancer. Having said this, it did not offer protection against a slightly raised risk of pancreatic cancer.
