Adjusting to the flavor of snus

So, before I started snus, I was not a regular smoker. I would have a cigarette when at the bars, and I enjoyed the occasional pipe and cigar, but I never really got a nicotine craving. I switched to snus to avoid the health risks / expenses of the above activities.

So far, I love General Mint and General Nordic Mint. General Wintergreen is pretty good too. However, I just can't wrap my head around the flavor of plain snus.

I got some julesnus, and when I put it in, I taste something, I am just not sure what. If I touch my tongue to the snus, I can pick up on some subtle cinnamon, but that's it. I got some General portion, too, and when I put that in I taste ... salt. Lots of salt. Not much else.

I know that the tobacco in snus can taste awesome from looking at the boards. I like the taste of tobacco in cigars/cigs/pipes. What am I doing wrong that is preventing me from tasting tobacco in snus?

Should I stick with General Portions for a week or two, abstaining from anything else? This would probably work, but I love general mint so much that it would be depriving myself of a pleasure!

Any help you guys can offer is much appreciated!

You're doing nothing wrong at all. Accept the learning curve. Time will reveal most subtleties mentioned by reviewers and eventually you will be able to add your own perceptions to the mix.

It's funny that you mentioned a learning curve... I just popped in another General portion, and it is notably different from yesterday's. Much less salty (unless I put my tongue to it), and the flavor was decidedly better. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
