    Another new guy

    Hi everyone,
New to the forum but hoping to use snus to kick my 25yr pack of day of cigs habit. I used to dip long before I started smoking so I dont think the switch will be too hard. I picked up some General white portion the other day to hopefully get used to the snus. I found it to taste very similar to Copenhagen dip which made it very hard for me to want to swallow the juices. Is it just something that takes time to get used to or is there a better snus out there to start off with? General is the only thing there is locally so that is why I tried that just to get started. They did have the trial packs also which I probably should have got just to try the different ones. After trying everything to quit smoking I have read lots of success people have had with snus so that is why I am here. Thanks for any advice you can give.

highly disagree though - General White Portions taste nothing like Copenhagen :-)

    IMO

Hi TacoSR5, welcome to snuson. I quit cigarettes after a pack a day for 25 years as well and snus was the only thing that would do the trick. I tried the patch, gum and cold turkey but nothing else worked.

I never dipped but many here have and there is an excellent thread for ex-dippers set up by Snusdog:

      Good luck!

Welcome. I also don't think General white tastes like Copenhagen. But we all have different tastes. I generally don't use white portions as I like the juice

First of all, good to have more Floridians here! I am in Jacksonville myself.

Secondly: I quit for a long time using snus, while I was gone with the National Guard I started smoking again, as I was unable to order snus. But, I got back home last week and made an order and here I am, smoke free again on day two. (I smoked for 10 years prior). Snus makes it EASY, but you have to understand it a little. Being a dipper I am sure you understand it a little better.

I found that regular strength portions do not curb the craving (at least at FIRST) for smoking enough to keep me from smoking. The last two days I have had a Nick and Johnny Strong portion in my mouth pretty much every waking hour (and many sleeping hours too) to avoid smoking. However, I also know, having quit with snus previously, that in a week or two I can lower my "dosage" to regular strength portions as well. (Although I probably won't because I love Jakobsens and Nick and Johnny).

It's funny, as I also dipped while I was away with the National Guard too, and I accidently threw a portion in my lower lip and COULDN'T swallow the juice. So make sure you use your upper lip (the "bulge" will go away within a couple days of using it up there). You also won't salivate as much using your upper lip. Just throw it to the side as far as you have to until it's comfortable.

I use buysnus.com. It seems to be the cheapest and fastest way to get snus here in Florida. It ends up being $4 something per can with freight included; probably cheaper than you are paying in the store. But you gotta order at least 10 or 15 cans to make it cost effective. Just order a variety and see what you like. Keep whatever you don't like, as you may like it later and your tastes will change. Keep it in the fridge for short term storage and freezer for long term storage.

P.S. I also love Toyota's and have a very terrible Land Cruiser obsession.. doh. I own a '77 FJ40.. Oh but Taco's are cool too... I guess....

$15?? It's cheap here... Cheaper than snus actually. like between $3 and $4 a can. But it doesn't last me as long as a tin of portion snus.

Yep, after the import tax, customs, duty, and the markup for the store it's up to $15. At least that's how the old timer that runs the local tobacco store explained it to me. They're the only place around that sells snus (all General) and it costs between $10.50 and $12.50. Crazy, eh?

Hey TacoSR5, maybe give loose snus a try as well.

Thanks for the welcome. I suppose my Copenhagen comment was more to do with the strong flavor of the white portion. Is there a good cinnamon flavored snus out there. Cinnamon always seemed to help when quitting smoking in the past and thought maybe that might be a better way to go for me.
