i'm in the same boat as ansel but my pipes are loaded with latakia based flakes in my case, but please do not forget tobacco is a luxury product just take the time to have a look at history and modern life the rich and powerful have always know how to use and be seen with tobacco's and you can bet there not smoking floor sweepings mixed with god knows what and made into cigrettes just the finests tobaccos in most cases, and thats the thing a good tobacco in ANY form with no or little chem's added may ??? be alot safer for you BUT do not tale the anti-tobacco nazis ...

Regular strength. Sometime lös, and sometimes portions. I don't really use stark snus at all. I make an exception for the occasional Jakobssons mint cause I really like the flavor. LD black is a great snus. That was my first love when I started snusing. It has a unique, almost oily texture that's really addicting.

I've been eyeing up the LD Black and the Jakobssons Licorice for my next order as I need to increase my portion stash. I know you like the Gotlands Anis and I do as well, is the Jakobssons portion essentially the same flavour as the lös and how does the LD Black compare?

The jakobssons portion is a bit different from the lös. It's essentially the same, but seems saltier, and more herbal than the lös. I really like both, and though I use lös almost 100%, I enjoy the Jakobssons portion for a change of pace. Keep in mind I haven't actually /had/ the Jakobssons portion :^D I was told(by Jimmy) that it's the same as the old Gotland portion, and that's what I'm basing my opinion from. LD black isn't much like the Jakobssons at all other than a superficial licorice type flavor. Where the Jakobssons is herbal, the LD is like a dessert licorice flavor. It's not really sweet, but it does have a certain sweetness like you'd get if you chewed natural licorice root. I don't consider one a substitute for the other. I love them both, and will use either depending on exactly what mood I'm in. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the LD assuming I could keep my Gotland Grå lös. If I had to give that up too... I'm not sure tbh. I think I'd tend to lean towards the LD, but it's best to not have to choose a favorite child :^D

Thanks, lxskllr. I think I'm just going to go ahead and order one of then. It sounds like the similarities end at the licorice/salmiak flavouring and each have their own unique qualities.

@Brutecraft: if this seems to have gone off-topic, perhaps it has a bit. But I think it may illustrate the variety of flavours and other qualities that snus has to offer compared to the smokes. Best of luck to you!

Yeah ld black is great, and the softest portion material out there. In terms of liquorice, I do like Oden's classic Lakrits portions and Offroad liquorice lös (the latter is probably my favourite flavoured snus).

Avoid Offroad original liquorice portions like the plague :-/

To get back on topic, crullers has a great point, I mean listen to us talking about the wonderful variety of snus. There is a snus for all palettes, whereas unless you are a connoisseur of cigarettes (if such a person exists) then taking up this great hobby will be 1000% more interesting.

I considered myself a cigarette connoisseur :-P check my youtube chan for my reviews on them (when I properly smoked) and if you go for quality tobaccos then cigarettes can taste very good, but not as good as snus though! I am a total convert and still trying and finding new flavours and types :-D Further evidence that snus is much better than smoking cigarettes.

There's no reason you can't sleep with snus in. I do, and it gives you great dreams. An added benefit is you don't wake up nic-ing out. For nicotine NOW, you just need some self control. Ten minutes is nothing, and you'll get it soon enough. After meals? Pioneer or Ettan goes great with coffee, and is much better than cigarettes. Garlicy meal? Jakobbsons strong mint makes a good breath freshener...

Yours spent years building up a cigarette dependency. Tapering it off over a year is no big deal. Just make sure when you smoke a cigarette, you really want a cigarette, and aren't doing it out of habit. I kept mine in the car. When faced with a walk outside, you find that many times you didn't want them as much as you thought you did :^)
                        This +100.

The snus will just take over...as long as you want it to.

Oh right, fair play mate, scratch my comment. When I smoked it was cutters choice, menthol tips and liquorice rizlas. That was as varied as it got lol.

                          Snus is key!

I smoked a variety of cigarettes, US or duty free blend Marlboro Lights (taste much nicer than european ones) for everyday also US Blend Camel Filters (taste totally different to european ones, they have turkish in them european ones don't, except the unfiltered ones but can't get those in the UK), evening ones were Dunhill International or Dunhill Filters/Lights or Lucky Strikes. I always had a different pack of this and that one the go too.

With hand rolling tobacco cutters choice on its own is quite nice, but the majority are piss poor, I used to get special blends from Gauntleys which were amazing, apply the pipe smoking baccy principle to ciggys and its just as good. You do need to have a clean palate to taste the different flavours in cigarettes though, when you drink alcohol it takes alot of the taste away, so you can smoke more and borrow tabs off people and not really notice the taste change.

I enjoyed finding the different flavours, now I do it with snuff and snus and don;t feel the need to smoke a cigarette.

Wow, I guess you can make a hobby out of smoking cigarettes, I stand corrected. i did have a good go of it- I did now and again get a gawith & hoggart shag or fine cut for hand rolling, at one point I had 1/2 a kilo in a savinelli tobacco jar. I went down the whole sterling silver rizla holder, dunhill lamb skin rolling pouch and dunhill rollagas route at one point, it got expensive. I guess I like to collect paraphernalia, a habit that has continued into my snus habit, I do like my icetool stuff :-)

How do your lungs feel now? How long since your last tab?
