    Hello

    Hi all,
    This is my first post.
A little about me, I have been a cigarette smoker for almost 25 years. Several times over the years I have attempted to quit. Gum and patches never seemed to satisfy my jones, but Copenhagen worked well. In 2011 I was able to stop for about 7 months, using dip, but still felt stigmatized and bothered by having to spit. I had known of snus since Camel and PM offered them in gas stations, but I couldn't really bond with the flavors too well. Money was tight, so buying in quantities that made the Swedish offerings financially worthwhile, wasn't an option then. I got a new job recently and decided to try out the "real" snus and attempt quitting cigs again. I got my first order about a month ago and tried out several different types and decided on a quit-date. So 2 weeks ago, last Thursday, is when I had my last cigarette! I've made 2 more orders since then(with each order containing about 10 cans.) I guess I'm still in a "trying-out" phase, deciding what I like enough to just buy rolls of. At the time, I have about 20 open cans of portions in the fridge and 2 cans of loose(that I haven't seen or felt the need to put in the fridge.) My 3rd order will be here on Tuesday and I am excited.
Here is a little rundown of my experience so far...I think I definitely like stronger portions better. At first, it seemed like I preferred white portions, but I think that's changing. I really enjoy loose, but am not afforded many practical opportunities to use it. My routine seems to be: wake up and use loose while drinking coffee and getting ready for work. A portion on the way to work. I start work with a portion. After first break, I'll have a strong portion. Lunch then a portion. After 3rd break another strong portion, then get home and have a loose and finally another portion as I lay down for bed. This is fairly common for my work days, sometimes I'll have an extra portion or two. On my days off, it's about the same.
It seems to me that a few weeks ago a portion would last well over an hour(my first extra strong tasted good for almost 2 hours,) but now it seems they lose flavor after 35-45 minutes...extra strong after about an hour. I think some of it is that I just like the way they taste and am manipulating my lip to release the flavor quicker? I don't know.
As far as flavors, I really like Ettan and Oden's Extreme loose. For portions, I love Taboca and really like Ettan(I only have white, with an original on the way.) I love Nick and Johnny Original and General Extra Strong(long and white.) I'm also fond of General Classic and the wintergreen and mint(when I want a change.) Also, the Oden's Extra Stark Liquorice is nice. I am anxiously awaiting Probe(portion and loose,) General Extra Strong loose, and cans of Grovsnus and Jakobssons portions...I have quite a few on the way, but I'm ranting already.
Anyway, here's a few that I didn't like as well as I though I would...Goteborgs Lingon(I had the regular in mini and loved it,) Catch White Eucalyptus, Oden's Extreme wintergreen, and I was disappointed in Blue Ocean(I actually like this one, but it loses flavor too quick.) I've read here that sometimes, after a period of time, one will find flavors good that were once disliked.
Oh well, I'm glad to find this forum and am sure I will have many questions in the future.
    Have a good day/night,
    Jason

Welcome to the forum Bro.....sounds like you are off to a great start!

One thing you will hear again and again here on the forum is that your taste will change.........it is true and has happened to just about all of us..........thus try a variety.........don't order any one brand in massive bulk for the first 6 months (your taste may change before you get through the lot of it)...........and if you don't like anything at first......put it in the freezer and revisit it in a few months

Anyway.......keep us posted and welcome to the site
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Welcome and congratulations from me too.

It sounds to me like you enjoy good traditional snus flavours and should shy away from the sweetened and candy flavour ones.

I think you may get on with Probe - but you'll either love it or hate it. Ettan loose should definitely be on your list of ones to try - as should goteborgs prima fint and röda lacket which all have good strong traditional tobacco bases to them.

Probe Whiskey is a great flavor! Congrats on the being smoke free. I am still searching for the "one" day to day snus, but so far that's half the fun.

Yeah definitely there were snus products that I didn't like at first or that were just ehhh. Then I would try them a year later and be like whoa! I can't believe I didn't see how great this was. Sometimes, I will specifically order a tin or two of something I didn't care for 6 months ago just to see whether I will still not care for it.

                  I know how you feel.

When I first tried Gotlands Gul (RIP) I was amazed at how many people talked so good about it but to me I tasted nothing.

I revisited it later on after my sense of taste came back and was blown away at how earthy and good it was.

Nice to have you here and hope your new relationship with snus works out for you.

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely get some Skruf Stark los and portions my next order.
For whatever reason the Ettan OP was not as satisfying as their WP and loose...their loose being my favorite since I began. I find it hard to believe the Oden's Extreme portions is the same stuff that's in the loose, as I think they taste completely different, same with Probe. Actually, the only portions that I like better than loose is General Extra Strong...I have strange taste buds, I guess. I really wish they still made the Nick and Johnny los I've read about. I'm still learning about the nicotine levels and the nicotine that is actually able to be absorbed, but I'm having fun.
Also, I have a question for everyone who transitioned to snus from some other tobacco...did you all get this "nic hit?" When I was about 13(when I started chewing and smoking,) I would get dizzy, in a good way...that's one of the reasons I guess I kept doing it. But, the only effect that I got from nicotine in years is that I simply stop obsessing about it. i.e., I am always aware how long it's been since my last use, so using tobacco resets the clock in my brain...if that makes any sense.
I discovered recently that keeping open cans in the fridge in a closed Ziploc bag can cause some portions to get "watery" and fluffy. A question...has anyone ever noticed any crossover in taste from food in the fridge to cans in the fridge? That is the only reason I keep the cans in the fridge bagged, lest food tastes like tobacco or vice versa.
Learning many thing here and still cigarette free!!!
                    Thanks for everything,
                    Jason
